Blue Man Group Keyboard
I was excited when I found the Blue Man Group Keyboard by Manley after launching a search engine for musical toys for a four year old boy. The Manley site recommends this product for children 4 years old and up.
The keyboard is very sturdy and probably could withstand some rough handling by kids, but the children quickly lost interest.
The music runs along classical lines which they already get plenty of from their other educational toys. We were looking for something more along jazzier or hip hop lines. For that there is a port for an MP3 or IPOD -- where you can pipe in your own music -- which you have to buy seperatly. It would have been nice to see more detailed information given on the specifics.
All in all I'd recommend it for a muscically inclined middle school aged child.

I own 3 of these keyboards and they are the greatest electronic musical instruments I have ever come across. There are preprogrammed tunes to play with. You just wave your hands over the tubes and different instruments chime in. You can also control the tempo and volume by waving your hands over the tubes...almost like an orchestra conductor. There's a hookup for your ipod or mp3 player that you can play the music through this instrument and the speakers are great. You can use the keyboard to play tunes that you know and change the instruments from piano to trumpet,drum, organ, guitar, tuba,etc. WooHoo! Great new take on the electric piano. Lots of sound options, easy to use, and the headphones are a real bonus! The only thing I would change, is the color of the keys on the keyboard...perhaps a bit more contrasting...because when my kids are trying to learn to play a song on the keyboard, they have trouble remembering where to place their fingers, as all the keys look alike. Other than that, it's a very cool, very modern,and very fun new instrument...and satisfies a broad age range.Customer Review: my little girl loved it

I (santa claus) got it as a xmas present for my 7yr old daughter. She had been obsessed with getting it after seeing it at Cosco. I got it at amazon for a bargain. I couldn't believe the price and the quality of the keyboard when Alyssia opened it on xmas. It's great for kids and adults. Very entertaining it gives kids a creative outlet. It even came with headphones so she could put them on when we need quiet. Absolutely great! very happy to see my daughters reaction to it.Customer Review: Cool toy

I bought this for my six-year old son for Christmas. It was one of his most wanted gifts for Christmas. It is sturdy, easy to use but it can be loud and some of the noises it makes can be annoying. It is cool though, you can hook up a MP3 player to it, and play along. He loves it, and his 11 year old sister plays sometimes too. It has only been a few weeks, so I don't know about battery life so I will have to update after a few months.
