Toys and Games Reviews of Wimmer-Ferguson Infant Stim-MobileCustomer Review: Surprising hit! Summary: 5 Stars
When my husband bought this product, I didnt think my son would be interested in it. We had another mobile from Tiny Love which played music, was very colorful and moved in multiple directions and my son was indifferent to it. So I didnt think this one would be of any interest either, since it was mostly black and white, did not move and did not play any music. Boy, was I wrong!
My son became interested in this right from the beginning, about 2-3 weeks old. He would just lie in his crib and stare at it, almost as if he was hypnotized by it. Sometimes this would go on for a whole 20 minutes! I had time to eat and do a bunch of other chores as well. We even got him a second one for his changing table, sine he liked it so much.
Now at 4 months old, he still likes to look at it, although it does not hold his attention as much as it used to before. But overall I think we got our money's worth many times over with this item.
Customer Review: Educationally wonderful! But very rinky-dink. Summary: 4 Stars
We have this hanging above the crib at baby's daycare and even though he's been there about 4 months now, it still mesmerizes him when we drop him off in the mornings. We switch pictures very occasionally, and twirl it a little as we leave and that seems to be enough. The plastic link chain is adjustable and the arch is higher than the other baby mobiles at the daycare (mostly symphony in motions, which we have at home but he gets tired of very quickly) so I love the proximity to baby's face. However, the cards are hooked to each other very poorly and the ones facing baby will not lay flat. He can still see them, but it bugs me. Also, if we aren't careful when we lean down to give him a kiss, we always end up knocking off a card or two, since they are lightly balanced on little plastic hook-things. This is a bit annoying. Still, the cards are light and will not hurt baby when they fall and the benefits of this toy far far outweigh the little annoyances.
Customer Review: Babies love it Summary: 5 Stars
This mobile is hard to find in stores but I sought it out after getting rave reviews from my brother, whose baby can't get enough of it. I'm glad I did.
I was unable to attach the mobile to our co-sleeper since it's designed to fit the bars of a crib. But when our baby was 2 months old and ready for the crib, we set up the mobile, and he loved it right away. He stares at it, smiles often, and sometimes even reaches his little arms toward it. He's now 4 months and still loves it. You can change or rotate the shapes, and you can make the shapes more complex as the baby gets older.
I'm less concerned with the educational value of products (I think society has become unfortunately obsessed with "making babies smarter"), but I'd guess that the variety of simple yet interesting shapes gives some kind of cognitive benefit.
For me, what makes this mobile great is how it fills my little son with happiness and wonder.
Customer Review: The BEST mobile ever- keeps my babies entertained for hours! Summary: 5 Stars
This mobile is awesome. We originally had a mobile that coordinated with our nursery decor and played music. Neither baby looked at or responded to that mobile. I purchased this one when my twins were about 5 weeks old in an effort to provide something visually stimulating for them to look at- especially since we put one baby in the crib while we are changing the other baby's diaper. Their faces light up every time they look up at this mobile, they absolutely love it. The mobile comes with extra double sided cards allowing you to change the pictures around for a new viewing experience. My now 3 month old twins particularly love the card with the smiling face- they laugh and smile back at it. This mobile also provides enough stimulation to keep an awake baby content and quiet in the crib while the other one is asleep. Get over wanting to have a cutesy mobile that matches your nursery and just get this one, your babies will thank you!
Customer Review: good idea, flimsy quality Summary: 2 Stars
The mobile was great at catching my daughter's attention. She loves to stare at it. And, from what I hear, this high contrast stimulation is good for her development. I am just diappointed with the quality, as the whole mobile seems flimsy and cheap.
The picture cards are interchangable, but as far as I can tell, they can only be placed in one direction. --There is one card that lies horizontally, and one that attaches to the mobile vertically, but you can not attach the horizonal one to the mobile, nor can you lay the vertical one horizontally to be viewed by baby. So I feel that the choices of view are limited. However, the horizontal cards are two sided, so that does increase the options. (I know this may not make sense until you actually see the mobile in person!)
All in all, it's good for capturing baby's attention, but I would have been more satisfied if the price was lower considering the quality.
