Toys and Games Reviews of Manhattan Toy Skwish Classic

Customer Review: Not that great, but depends on your child
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this toy for my son when he was a little infant. I love the way it looks and thought it would be visually stimulating before he was able to actually manipulate it himself.
He never seemed really interested in it. I wanted him to like it so I played with it a lot around him.
When he was old enough to hold it and shake it, he would always hit himself in the face with it. It was too heavy for him.
He did this so much that when I would pick it up to show him, he would wince reflexively upon seeing it.
I have always kept this toy out on his shelves and provided a lot of access to it.
He's 20 months old now and never really cared about this toy. Over time, I've showed him how it smashes and twists and springs back into shape. He's just not impressed.
I think it just depends on your child. Some kids will like it and some won't. My son has had almost no electronic toys or flashy plastic toys. He isn't the kind of kid who just doesn't like this toy because it's not hyper-stimulating. So I don't know why he's never liked it. But based on all the reviews, you can tell that this toy isn't automatically going to be a "winner", but you can always hope.
Good luck with it. They have a really nice "natural" one now which is unpainted wood.

Customer Review: Great toy!
Summary: 5 Stars

When my baby was 5 months old, she was never interested in grabbing toys. We were worried that her motor skills were not developing as it should be, but after we got this toy, that worry is totally gone. She loves playing with this toy and would use it to practice all sort of skills (grabbing, raking, shaking). After a month of playing, she is very good at getting whatever she wants now (not just this toy).

It has bright primary colors, and with many strings and rods, it is very easy for her to get a hold of it. She would try to rake it and one of her fingers would catch a string, and she seems to be very proud that she can get a hold of it so fast. There are some sliding wooden balls on the rods that make noise when the toy is shaken, and my baby loves playing with that. She's learning cause and effect, that her action is causing these noise. And unlike other rattles and toys, most of which music/sound effects are way too loud, this one is very subtle and I don't have to worry her toys damaging her hearing at such a young age.

This is our family's favorite, and we are giving it out to our expectant friends as gifts. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Perfect Fidget Toy!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this as a "fidget", an object to fidget with. The bright primary colors and the high quality wood material instead of cheap plastic combined with the structure of this toy attracted me to it. The unique shape, bright colors, and beads sliding up and down the rods are fascinating to look at while the squishy aspect reminds me of a stress (squeeze) ball but this is way more interesting than most of the more generic looking office desk accessory type stress toys. You can flatten it in any direction and it bounces back to its original shape. It seems durable and designed to stand up to a lot of squeezing, squishing, flattening, rattling, and rolling. I would recommend the Skwish for all ages because as a unique multi-sensory object, it can be enjoyed by anyone, adults as well as children. I have noticed that the Amazon product recommendations are the only ones where the Skwish is recommended solely as a baby rattle. Educational toy stores sell it at a much higher price but they advertise it as a manipulative toy for children of all ages or give an age range of "0-99".

Customer Review: Good Toy.
Summary: 4 Stars

This does have some entertainment value, but it isn't holding my baby's attention for long, but then at 10 months nothing much does! He likes to sit shaking it to hear the chiming sound and then will put it down after a minute or so to play with something else. He does go back to it though often during play and the gentle sound does make him giggle! It is a toy that I will be taking with me on a plane trip as the sound level is minimal and so shouldn't upset the other passengers during the day. Probably not a good choice for a nighttime flight though. It seems to be well made but only time will tell, like most things it has already spent some time in his mouth and his 6 teeth have yet to really have an impact.
Apart from the colours I really can't see that it has much educational value but at 10 months that doesn't matter as much as entertainment. A good toy for the money.

Customer Review: My Baby's Favorite Toy
Summary: 5 Stars

We have had this toy since our son was born, and he has enjoyed playing with it since then (he is now 8 months). The age range identified by Amazon on this toy is much too old, as I think that it is extraordinarily interesting for babies around 3-6 months, particularly at the age that they put everything in their mouths. (The toy company which makes it identifies it as appropriate for 0+). My son loves the clink clink of the wooden balls as they shift along the wooden rods, the colors are bright and cheerful (and carefully selected for each ball/rod), and the design (an icosahedron) delights my math-oriented husband. Other advantages include that it is light and squishes almost flat for easy travel, and perhaps most important, that my son is absolutely CRAZY about the toy, and it is a surefire way to entertain him in any situation.
