Customer Review: Baby hated it, but toddlers LOVED it!

We bought this for our daughter. She is now 3 months old and she STILL screams every time we put her under it. At first, I thought she just hated being put down (haha!), but seriously, it's the gym. She will lay on her other play mat just fine. She shrieks when we push any of the buttons, and again, LOVES the other gym that also has lights and sounds.
Some of the downfalls: it's not really motion activated. You gotta whack those dangling toys pretty good to get the thing going with the lights and sounds. If they kick the footboard, that doesn't set them off, either. In our attempts to get our daughter to enjoy it, she would just kick it away. When we butted the toy against the hearth, she scooted herself away. It's also really loud, even on the lower volume setting. Perhaps we're just noise-sensitive, but the volume was so overwhelming we put half-dead batteries in there just so it wouldn't give us a headache.
We finally gave up on our daughter enjoying it about a week ago, but in doing so, discovered that our almost-3-year-old son LOVES this toy. We converted it to the second stage and go back and forth between that and the desk stage. It's great! My boys are brutes and this thing stands up to them and their abuse just fine! I will say that when we were putting it together, there were 2 screws that just would NOT screw into the plastic. We tried by hand and with a power drill and they went NOWHERE. My husband ended up using something else (a different sized screw, I think) to secure those two points. Overall, a good buy. I'm a little disappointed that the baby didn't enjoy it, but I don't think the product itself is bad. We just have a little diva who wanted something more feminine. ;-)
*I gave it 1 star for "fun" because our daughter hated it and she was the reason we bought it. However, if I were only thinking about the toddler-aged boys, I'd give it 5 stars.
