Toys and Games Reviews of Little Tikes Shopping Cart - Yellow/Red

Customer Review: Great toy, with 1 exception...
Summary: 4 Stars

We put this shopping cart on my daughter's 1st birthday gift registry. She was just learning to walk, and we wanted to encourage her with a toy that helped her feel like a big girl.
My mother-in-law purchased it, and my daughter took to it immediately. She put her dolls in the seat area, and she went "shopping" all over the house. She even borrowed my little purse and put it on her shoulder!
The basket fits a decent amount of stuff -- especially play food -- and the open area beneath the main basket allows for even more room.
We have had this for 9 months now, and she still loves it! I can honestly say she has learned from this toy as well because at the grocery store she is very helpful and organizes the items in our real grocery cart (she prefers sitting in the main part, not in the seat, just so she can do this). Then, at the checkout, she is very happy to put them on the conveyor belt to let the girl ring them up.
My only gripe about the toy is that the wheel covers come off. When she turns the cart, the purple covers (they are blue in the image provided by Amazon) just fly off. She'll stop, pick them up, and either attempt to fix the cart or she'll just throw them in and keep going. This problem is more annoying than anything, and I'm considering trying superglue to get them to stay on.
I also read a review that mentions the plug in the bottom which can be pulled out for sand to be put in to weigh the cart down (this is done to prevent the cart from tipping). My cart (the pink & purple version) also has the plug, although I have never removed it. We don't have a problem with her tipping it over, so I see no reason to use this feature yet.
Overall a great product that is lots of fun!

Customer Review: A nice shopping cart
Summary: 4 Stars

My two year old son is obsessed with pushing things around. He loves to push his stroller (rather than ride in it) and he loves to push the shopping carts in the grocery store, so we bought him this for Christmas. It was an immediate favorite. He loves to put his toys in it and push it around. It appears to be very durable, as he also enjoys tipping it over and climbing all over it. It is on the smaller side, but cute. My only complaint is with the assembly. The wheels come in two parts, and you must snap them together. Good luck with that! LOL! I see no reason why Little Tikes cannot ship it already with the two wheel pieces together. It would make a lot more sense and make the assembly of this cart a cinch! Really, putting the wheels together was quite the joke. The one part was not even round, it was oval, and you had to try to bend it back to a round shape to get it to snap over the other very round part. Just insane. But, glad I got it for my son. He enjoys it very much. As for the wheel axels, the shopping cart came with a gadget (we didn't realize it was there at first) which helps keep the wheel steady, while you attach the wheel. When we discovered this little gadget, and used that, it was simple to get the wheels on the axel. I only wish that snapping the two pieces of the wheels together were that simple!

Customer Review: Not bad but could be better

I got this for my son's 2nd birthday. For some reason I thought there would be more brands/styles to chose from at a Target store and waited until a few days before his birthday to go shopping. They only had two, this one and a much smaller, cheaper quality one. I trusted the brand so I didn't think twice about this one. Putting it together was more difficult than it should have been. We haven't had a problem with tipping and the size is perfect for him. However, like others have mentioned, the front wheels do come off a little too easy. I snap them back on and it's not a big deal but from this brand I was expecting much more quality wise.

One of the reviews mentioned that their child climbed into the seat (meant for dolls) and their legs got stuck in the holes where the legs of the dolls would go. Maybe it's an older model (I got ours in late October 2009) but I can't even force my hand through the openings.

I would only recommend this if only one child will be playing with it on a regular basis, and a fairly calm one at that. Just be prepared to snap the wheels back on when needed. I can't imagine it holding up to the use of multiple children or those that play a little rough.

Customer Review: Fun but tips forward
Summary: 5 Stars

Both my 3 year old and my 1 year old love this shopping cart. However, it is top heavy in the front. So, if the front is leaned on it tips over forward. And, in the case, of my one year, she has to really reach to get things out of the bottom so she leans on it and pulls it over. In the case of my 3 year old, we had it when she was younger but I had just put it away until she was older and it wasn't an issue. Now I just have to really manage use of it...keeping the front pushed up against something when not in use and really watching when the little one is playing with it. The manufacturers age range starts with 24 months, maybe that is why. Plus, it is quite tall. The younger ones that aren't very tall wouldn't be able to push it very well.
Otherwise, it is a great toy. It just needs a deeper/longer bottom or a redesigned top. We also have the Leapfrog shopping cart and it doesn't have this problem. However, it is really a different toy all together, I wouldn't recommend that one if you don't want the electronic feature. My kids rarely play with that one as a shopping cart. My point is that a toy shopping cart can be designed so that it is not top heavy and doesn't tip forward.

Customer Review: Oh what to buy!
Summary: 5 Stars

My kids love shopping carts, we go to a grocery store where they have little minni ones for kids. WEll when we were in the market for one, we needed the following reqirements...

* A place for a dolly, must be the best thing about a cart
* Big basket, to hold food and what ever else they are shopping for
* Sturdy durable plastic, not the cheep kind that will crack and leave sharp edges
* Wheels where little fingers cant get hurt
* Something thats just the right size

Well most of the "good" carts are pink, and thats no good considereing I have but one girl, 3 year old b/g and 8 month old b/b... so it was between this and leapfrog, now why did this one win?

MUCH more durable, my kids sit in it turn it upside down, cram it with stuff... everything
The plastic is not breakable... thank god
Theres a place for baby, too bad leapfrog, that was the biggest selling point
This one doesnt talk... there are just some toys that shouldnt... right?
Non-gender specific....

My kids love this cart, and they love putting babies in it too, great great buy... I also think my 8 month olds will enjoy it soon as well
