Toys and Games Reviews of Little Tikes Mulching MowerCustomer Review: Popping good fun Summary: 5 Stars
My boy likes to follow me around when I cut the grass and I thought he might like a lawmnower of his own. Seems there are two easily-available options out there.
1. The Fisher Price bubble mower... which seems like a great concept, but has mediocre reviews. It costs a little less, but doesn't seem as durable. Plus they have redesigned it so that now a bottle of bubble solution screws on to it and anyone who has spent any amount of time with my boy can see that the first thing he would do with *that* is to unscrew it, fill it with dirt, and put it back on.
2. This mower. :-)
My neighbor's 5 year old has this mower in red and after 3 years or so it is still in great shape. A little faded from the sun and the cap to the "gas tank" is gone but it still has lots of years on it. We bought a new one in blue and aside from the color, they are the same.
My boy wants to take this thing everywhere. He brings it in the house, he takes it out in the yard, he has taken it to the neighbors and the boys have had dueling lawnmower fun.
Great toy, very sturdy. It's possible to put a little dirt in the gas tank but it's not going to hurt anything, the cap is really just for show (like on the Cozy Coupe) NOT for kids just beginning to get good at walking, though - I remember last spring when my boy would try to use this, he would lean on it and fall on his face. The age range is 1 1/2 and up - I think at 1 1/2 most kids might still be leaning too much to use this toy well. For 2 and up, it's definately a winner. (My boy is 2 1/2 at the time of this review)
Customer Review: She just can't get enough of it Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this mower for my 3 year old daughter because she just loves to play in the backyard. She got so many toys but also the attention span of a bumblebee (approx. 4,87 sec.) and I was desperately looking for something she'd play with at least a little longer. A friend of mine recommended this mower (her twins love it and I was encouraged by the fact that it is- Quote:"practically indestructible") , and what can I say, she was right. My toddler instantly fell in love with this toy and every afternoon you'll see her proudly cut the grass. On uneven terrain the wheels won't move sometimes but this doesn't seem to bother her at all, and when the wheels move the mower will make a cute popping sound (thank goodness, not one of them annoyingly loud ones!). I'm also impressed how much this toy can take, my daughter already ran it full speed into stones and once even into a wall, but all you can see is a few scatches, nothing tore or broke. As the little one already managed to wreck quite a number of toys I must give it to Little Tikes, they made not only a toy that is great fun but also will last longer than just one summer. So if you want a durable toy at a reasonable price that will provide lots of fun for your toddler, this is your best bet.
Customer Review: Our Son's Favorite, by Far!! Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this for our son's 1st B'day last Christmas and for these past 10 months can not get him away from it. He would sleep with it if we allowed it!
Your child must be able to walk fairly well and it is somewhat difficult for the youngest walkers to push on the lawn. It's noise (popcorn machine-like) may annoy some adults, but these same adults may find a real mower irritating as well(we don't). Our son pushes it on the driveway, sidewalk, patio, and lawn so he can "mow" while Daddy is doing the same.
He knows, names, and points to the gas and oil caps, key, throttle, and makes believe he is pulling a "cord" to start it like Daddy. He even "puts it to sleep" next to Daddy's mower every night.
Extremely durable, we have never had a parts problem and our son has used it EVERY day this year. We have had no tipping over problems since we are in the habit of supervising our small children.
This toy is a joy, especially if the family values outdoors work like we do. "Lawn Mower, Lawn Mower" is all he can say each time he even catches a glimpe of it. It helps that his Daddy is a Lawn and garden fanatic.
Customer Review: Durable fun mower Summary: 4 Stars
My daughter loves to push things, cars, walkers, shopping carts, strollers, so I had to buy her something she could push outside that had bigger wheels to handle the grass. She loved the mower in the store. She mowed many aisles and got upset because the one we put in the shopping cart had cardboard around it's wheels.
When we got home I couldn't wait for her to push it all around our back yard. She pushed it 3 steps before hitting a tough patch of grass and because she was pushing forward on it, the mower kept digging into the ground making it really frustrating for her to push it in the yard. I looked at the construction of the mower and if the wheels were either bigger or the base of the mower was higher off the ground it would make it easier for it to ride through the grass. She got frustrated so much that she doesn't play with it outside other than flip the controls and take the gas cap off and on.
I still like this mower because of it's durablity. I would have giving it 5 stars if it was a little bit better for pushing outside in the grass.
Customer Review: Great for babies who can walk a few steps on their own Summary: 5 Stars
My 14-month-old son received this for his first birthday and it has been his favorite toy ever since. He uses it indoors and outdoors. He pulls it, pushes it, pushes down on the handle to flip it up and look at the underside, plays with the controls, opens and closes the "gas cap", etc. He never tires of it. His latest game is to set a big ball on the "engine", and try to push the mower around without bumping the ball off. IMPORTANT: This mower is great for babies who already can walk one or two steps on their own, or who can stand steadily on their own. It's not great for babies who need something to lean on in order to stand up or walk. If a baby leans or pulls up on the handle, they will not get the support they expect -- the handle will fall to the floor, taking them with it. My son was walking about four or five steps on his own when he received this mower. His walking ability quickly skyrocketed after receiving it -- perhaps due to his strong desire to play with it. Great toy -- we love it. Highly recommended.
