Customer Review: Get some sand

I bought this for my 3-year-old daughter to share with our 14-month-old son. It's a great little set-up, and they both enjoy it very much, but there are a few things worth mentioning that aren't readily apparent.
First, the base of the unit needs to have sand poured into it to give it weight and keep the unit stable. The hole to pour in the sand is about the size of a half dollar. The instructions (written on side of the box -- no separate instructions are included with the unit) suggest using a funnel. This does not work terribly well, however, and you will spend far more time pouring sand in manually than putting the actual unit itself together.
Second, the latch that adjusts the height of the rim and backboard is flimsy. It has two circular plastic tabs that nominally keep it in place on the pole after one flips the latch down. However, the circular tabs can easily become dislodged, resulting in the rim and backboard sliding down to the lowest position.
Lastly, when the ball drops through the net, it ricochets rapidly off the base. If your toddler is making shots from 5-10 feet away directly in front of the net (not too likely), this would seem to be a kind of ball return, but otherwise it inevitably results in having to chase the ball down.
All things considered, however, it is a fun toy your toddler will almost certainly enjoy.

My son is three yrs old and about 42 inches, we keep it on the next to last highest setting and it is enjoyable for him We will probably need to put it on the highest setting soon and probably need a bigger one next summer. He has alot of fun with it and although it is not very tall or does not have the ability to go as tall as some other models, he still has fun trying to aim and shoot for the hoop so we will use it to practice these skills before buying another. You definitely need to fill the base with sand before using( do not use water as substitue) as it will tip over repeatedly without sand as per the directions. Overall just like any basketball set this one provides great outdoor/indoor fun as well as exercise and is durable compared to others in its price point. We have not had problems with the height adjustment bar or with any parts falling off and my son is rough with this toy and b/c I did not fill with sand right away it has fallen numerous time and seems to be wearing well. My son is in love with balls. All types. So, of course, the next step was to get him a goal to put them in. This adjustable hoop was just the thing.We keep the hoop inside, so it has not been filled with sand. We have never had a problem with it toppling over, except when my son purposefully pulls it! He can move it where he wants it to be so he can line up the best shot possible. At two, he is very particular about where he stands and how far the hoop is away from him!
The incremental adjustment for the hoop is a wonderful feature. We keep the hoop just at fingertip height so that he has to stretch to put the ball in the hoop, which adds just the right amount of challenge.
This is a great toy for the rest of the family, too! My husband spends just as much time as my son shooting baskets, although usually from the couch across the room! The kickback feature of the base is a nice touch on this hoop, returning the ball to you after you have made the goal. A definite plus for the "big" kid couch potato.

We bought this for our 1st child when he was 1 1/2 yrs. old, that was 9 years ago! For the first few months, we kept it in the living room, then we moved it outside. It was outside from then on, except for the winter (we live in a snowy area). It survived very well, and finally bit the dust last spring when the rim was bent down and also cracked from falling over and hitting the driveway one too many times, because 9 & 10 yr. old boys were playing with it! (we had water in the base for a while, but then the kids dumped it out.) All 3 of my kids, as well as the neighbors, loved playing with it. The one drawback was that the soft rubber ball that comes with it popped years ago and we couldn't find an identical replacement, but found that a child sized (hard) basketball fit in the hoop as well. Also, by leaving this out in the sun for months at a time, the plastic hoop faded and probably weakened, but the rest of it was still in great shape when it went to the curb.Customer Review: We all love it!

We bought this as the main gift for our daughter's 1st bday and boy did we get a deal! First of all, this is fun for the whole family, we love taking turns helping her score one! The rim is flexible and has never popped off while she pulled on it making a dunk. The base can be filled with sand or water and makes for extra sturdiness. We have it empty right now, cause we keep it in the living room and although it has fallen a few times due to rowdy behavior, it has never hurt my precious 2 yr old. The adjustable height is my favorite feature, as it grows with the child. The shortest height offered my little one great encouragement as she can easily make a basket and a dunk now, so it is time to move it up. This has got to be one of the best bargains out there because it will last forever!
