Toys and Games Reviews of Little Tikes Double EaselCustomer Review: A great easel Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this easel used through the classifieds so I got a really good deal on it. The thing I love about Little Tikes toys is that they are a great deal when purchased used--they consist of sturdy bare essentials and don't have little frills that can be damaged. Basically what I'm saying is that, even though my easel was used, it still works like new.
I don't really love the "chalkboard", which isn't really a chalkboard at all but rather some rough black plastic. The chalk drawings aren't very crisp. However, I ABSOLUTELY prefer this surface over that glossy, slippery green stuff that some of my friends' kids have on their easels. At least the chalk shows up on this one.
Of all the easels I've seen (including Melissa and Doug's flimsy little thing and Costco's pricey one) this is definitely the best: very durable, very usable, easy to clean, hard to hurt, and a lot of fun.
Customer Review: Incomplete Packaging Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this product for Christmas along with chalk expecting the kids to love it. When I began assembly I found that it was missing several key parts.(blackboard, paper, and connecting rods). On my third day of trying, I was able to get through to Little Tikes. They would be happy to see if they had the parts once I proved (sales receipt mailed to Ohio)that I had purchased the item. Have you ever known anybody to shoplift a double easel? The point is that they made the error and it becomes my responsibility to prove it to them. I wonder how many people got up on Christmas morning and thought to scam Little Tikes out of an extra part for their easel. If I rate this product on use, it will be a negative number. This will be my last purchase of any Little Tikes product. My business goes to Step 2. If you stay with Tikes, check your boxes before you leave the store.
Customer Review: My daughter loves this easel. Summary: 4 Stars
My 2-1/2 year old daughter gets hours of enjoyment out of this easel. We just have it set up outside and she paints on one side and uses her extensive sidewalk chalk collection on the other side.
At the moment we're having a bit of trouble erasing the chalkboard well, but I'm not sure if that's because it's out in the sun right now. Most chalkboards seem to have this problem so I'm not too worried about it.
It seems as though replacement parts are fairly inexpensive so this should last through many children. I checked the Little Tikes site and you can get all of the replacement parts that people have mentioned for very reasonable prices (for example, the tray support bracket can be purchased for 50 cents.) Pads of paper are $3.00.
Overall we're very happy with this toy and it's very easy to clean up (just hose it off!)
Customer Review: Great product - a few problems though Summary: 5 Stars
Received this product a few weeks ago for 2 1/2 and 1 yr old. Assembly was easy except for the paper clip. One of the clips broke fairly easily while being assembled. Make sure red plastic piece is completely out of punch hole before assembling. Also, 1 chalk board was cracked. I contacted Little Tikes and they sent a chalk board and clip out with no problem - even though I did not have original receipt - they were accommodating. I also ordered extra paper at $3.00 per pad from LT's. To ensure the paper clip holds the paper, make sure the clip is screwed all the way in. As for the 3 stars on durability, i can see one of the boys pulling too hard on the art trays or stepping on one and it breaking - i think the design needs to be improved on this part only. The kids just love this product though and that's what counts.
Customer Review: A good buy if your child isn't real tough on toys. Summary: 5 Stars
My son and daughter really enjoyed this easel. The removable trays make it easy for cleaning up. Getting paper has never been a problem. I just get 12x18" drawing or newsprint paper and fold and tear about 4-5 inches off the length. When my daughter was 1 yr. old until about 2 yrs. old I taped 12x18" paper horizontally since she couldn't reach as high. Both children could paint at the same time by taping one child's paper to the chalk board. The problem we had with it was that the posts that hold on the removable trays broke. Now I have to find out if the parts can be ordered from the company or make more out of wood. My son climbed on the tray to try to reach something and it broke, but as long as your child doesn't take things apart and climb on things the way my son does, it would be a good buy.
