Toys and Games Reviews of Little Tikes Discover Sounds KitchenCustomer Review: Great lil Toy..IF it worked right Summary: 4 Stars
My sister in law bought this toy for my one year old daughter for christmas and she really loves playing with it...but within a couple days I noticed that it wasn't working right..the sink wasn't lighting up or making sounds and the stove top makes the sounds that the sink is supposed to make I replaced the batteries even though I didn't think that was the problem and sure enough it wasn't so there must be a wire crossed somewhere...even with the kitchen not fully functioning my daughter still really enjoys playing with this toy we bought the accessories that go with the kitchen because we were a little disappointed with what it came with but overall it is probably in her top three favorite toys...I haven't had much luck with exchanging it or with little tikes sending a new one but I would still ask for this toy again for my daughter or buy it myself
Customer Review: Improved? Maybe a little... Summary: 4 Stars
We had the older version of the Discover Sounds kitchen. When the refrigerator door broke, I exchanged it for this new version. I have to say that I prefer the old kitchen for these reasons: it was larger, the accessories were better (a pot and a pan, a spoon and a spatula, a phone-no change there, and some little shapes to sort.)
This new kitchen is smaller and it's difficult to get to the sink. The refrigerator doesn't have stickers on the inside, so it's a little more dull. It does have a tendency to tip over, just like the old one did, and my 1 year old's favorite thing to do is turn it on it's side and sit in it like a boat.
Because it is so small, I'm sure my daughter will outgrow it long before the recommended age of 36 months. There are other, better kitchens out there, I would not recommend this one.
Customer Review: Great Toy! Summary: 5 Stars
With any toy, a child first needs guidance and of course supervison. My daughter got this at 10 months and fell in love with it. When we first got it we played along with her and now she sits and plays by herself. She just needed someone to show her about playing "pretend". She "cooks" things up now and gives them to us to try (she is now 11 months). It's about learning no matter how simple the tasks. She loves trying to put whatever is handy in the fridge, oven and microwave parts. The door does come off but it's not dangerous. It only snaps in and out and it's all soft plastic. My daughter will try to yank the door off on purpose. She thinks it's funny. She can also tip it over but again she does it on purpose. There isn't much weight to it so it's no danger to someone of her age. I think the best age range for this would be 9 - 18 months.
Customer Review: Nice Toy Summary: 4 Stars
My daughter got this as a gift for her 1st birthday. She plays with it everyday and seems to enjoy it. I've seen her play with it for up to 30 minutes at a time. She keeps busy opening and closing the doors, putting the cup in the cupboard and running around with the phone next to her ear. While I was wanting a larger kitchen set for her, this one is making due until then. I figured she would be bored with this when I saw the size of it, but it keeps her occupied and until she outgrows it, I won't be getting the bigger kitchen set.
We must have the new version of this b/c we didn't get any pots and pans with it and the door does not come off. Our daughter tips it over, stands on it and sits on it. She'll try to carry it around and drop it. It's held up to her torture and all the sounds still work.
Customer Review: Good for younger kids Summary: 4 Stars
While my 2 1/2 year old loves playing with pretend food and cooking, this kitchen set is now too short for her, so she no longer plays with it. When she "cooks" she needs to walk around to serve others, and therefore, she prefers making her own "kitchen" on couches and chairs. We have a larger kitchen set outside which she really enjoys now.
The size was perfect when she was younger (before she really knew what it was), and is great for my 9 month old baby. If you are looking at buying a kitchen, this is great for younger kids that are too short to reach the taller kitchen sets, but as they get taller, a larger kitchen set would probably be played with more often. Of course, with their great imaginination, pretend food and pots and pans seem to do the trick well without any kitchen.
