Toys and Games Reviews of Little Tikes Discover Sounds KitchenCustomer Review: Broke within the second week/Not the kitchen described Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this toy for my 15 month old granddaughter because my 7 year old granddaughter used to like it when she was a toddler. They have changed the toy and made it far less entertaining and enjoyable. The discription of the kitchen which you read here is for the Little Tikes Kitchen of 7 years ago. At that time there were three little blocks that fit into corresponding shapes in the frige door. The blocks would remain hidden out of sight until the toddler pressed a button and the blocks would drop down into a little pot that fit on a shelf on the outside of the door. The button and blocks dropping down were the main attractions of the toy, far more than the sounds of sizzling or boiling, the button and blocks really entertained my granddaughter.
On the newest model kitchen, that feature has been eliminated entirely, although they still list it in the description here. The kitchen USED to include 8 pieces: three differently shaped "ice cube" blocks, a pot or bowl, a realistic frying pan, a spatula, a spoon, and a telephone. There was a timer that actually moved and dinged on the stove, a realistic sink that made sounds, and burner that sizzled. There was a more realistic microwave, and the fridge with the ice dispenser and decals inside of food. It was a very cute and entertaining toy for a toddler girl.
I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I purchased this toy for my new baby granddaughter thinking I was going to receive the same kitchen. There are five pieces: a milk carton, a cheese, a phone, and a cup which is supposed to be some sort of pot but it's a cup, and an egg. All of the pieces and the entire "kitchen" is cheesy beyond belief. The big attraction, I assume, is that the areas that make sounds now include lights. Here's the real cake topper: we have had the toy for less than two weeks and the sound feature no longer works. My granddaughter was never too entertained by this kitchen even with the sounds and lights (with good reason) so there was very minimal use.
The now silent "sink" is a spinning blue disk with bumps on it. I assume that this is supposed to be water, but even in the most vivid imagination it bears absolutely no resemblance to any sort of sink or liquid anyone has ever seen before. The fridge does nothing. The toast is impossible for a small child to move. An adult can move it about a half an inch and it makes a ratchet sound. Wow. There is no longer any timer to move. This is just a ridiculously inferior product to the original, and I can only assume that the positive reviews refer to the original kitchen and not the really low, low budget, but better profits for Little Tikes, cheapo replacement kitchen. I am returning this kitchen and will carefully consider whether to buy Little Tikes in the future.
