I ordered this lego set for my son's 4th birthday. It arrived, I hid it and promptly forgot where it was. Kaplan (the seller) was SO nice when I reported (in error) that I hadn't rec'd the package. Kaplan has the BEST customer service, they replied immediately to my email, they called me personally, they shipped another set immediately. When I realized my mistake they could not have been more gracious. I will recommend Kaplan to all my friends who have kids. My son loves the set, it's more Lego's than he can handle! I like that this is a package of just Lego bricks, and not all the fancy prefab cars, house, people, etc., that most people think of as Legos nowadays. Personally, I think the more fancy you make the Lego sets, the less they stimulate imagination -- just having geometric blocks and building with those seems like pure creative thought to me.
That being said, it's worth pointing out that these are *small* basic Legos (ie, the connecting dots are the smallest size). Does anyone know where we could find a comparable basic set of the larger-bore size?

We have had this set for some time now. Legos are wonderful, particularly the non theme type legos. They expand a child's imagination. They encourage creative play and they are durable, long lasting and fun to play with it. They are also quiet and require more than a button push to make some event happen.
In our house you can not have enough legos. This is a great set to expand your child's basic lego blocks. There is a good ratio of all colors and a wide ranges of sizes within this set.
Well worth the money.

I bought this for my grandson thinking they were the large lego that we had when we were younger. When they arrived and my grandson opened them I was very disappointed that they were so small. He opened them and played with them once and now they are in the box in the corner and he hasn't played them again. Very poor value for what you get. I wish I could find the big lego's that I remember growing up. I bought 2 different sets with the boards to play with. If they were not opened and all put together I would return them for a refund.Customer Review: So much better than kits!

Our grandsons, ages 4 and 6, love Legos, but up til now only had the kits that make something. Once they make it they don't want to take it apart -- so it becomes like a model airplane or something, on the shelf. This set was large, lots of blocks, lots of sizes and all the colors. We supplemented with a base to build on and some axles and wheels, and some people from the Lego store. The creativity has been nonstop. Of course, they still have a fit when something collapses and falls apart, but coping is an important skill too.
