My son was playing with these at a friends house and didn't want to leave them. I decided to put them under the tree this year and it was a smash hit. His dad is a chef and I like to cook, so this allows him a clean way to participate in some of the fun. Further, this is a very educational toy. On the top of each cupcake are sprinkles in a specific shape. The bottom of each cupcake has a large shape to match. Then the base of the cupcake, or the cupcake wrapper, has a hole in the shape. With this, they will learn shapes, colors and coordination. In order for things to fit back together correctly, they'll have to match the star cupcake with the star cupcake holder. Within a week, my son is now able to tell me each of the shapes and he's 2.
This plastic is rubber/plastic and very easy to clean and sterilize. Plus, you'll love the way it all goes back together in one neat holder.

I bought this toy several years ago. My kids 4 and 5.5 still play with it. It has great educational value for very young in matching shapes both by getting the top of the cupcake into the bottom by matching the shape in the tray. However, my set was defective. The tops of the cupcakes have picture corresponding to the shape hidden inside that you must insert into the bottom piece. Our set had 2 cupcakes with Square pictures on top even though only one cupcake had a square shape- the other is triangle. My daughter was VERY frustrated bc 2 cupcakes were identical and she could figure why it wouldn't fit. I tried calling the customer service number on the package and tried their website with no success. So as long as your set is not defective, great product. Now they use it in their kitchen just as cupcakes. Its fun to pretend to eat them because the tops separate from the 'wrappers'.Customer Review: love smart snacks!!!!!!!

Learning resources has a whole line of Smart Snacks toys, I love them and my 3 yr old loves them as well. This was actually a toy used by her OT, great for fine motor, hand eye coordination. Identify shapes, and gives resistance when pulling apart and putting back together. I never realized before but the each cupcake's decorative sprinkles are all in the shape of the inside shape it contains. Another great matching or shape recogniton and great for fine motor that my OT uses and my daughter loves is by Fisher Price and is called Matchin Middles, they look like Oreos. Great for giving 1/2 of the cookie as this is with 1/2 of the cupcake and putting all the other halves in front of her and saying the shape's name and have her look for the matching 1/2 then put it together and even in the cupcake holder each cup has a shape that matches its cupcake.Customer Review: A new favorite

My 2.5yo son loves these! As others have said, they are as good for pretend play as they are for learning about shapes. The pieces are all heavy, soft rubber, not hollow plastic like a lot of play food. They did smell quite a bit right out of the package, but that has dissipated. And they are hard to separate, but they loosen up a bit after a few go-rounds, and it's a good lesson in perseverance. My boy has spent a long time with these each day since they arrived, "baking" them, serving them to the whole family and his stuffed animals, singing Happy Birthday, then taking them apart and matching the pieces, and matching the colored bottom parts to the colors of the plates from his kitchen. Highly recommended for any toddler or preschooler, but especially for a child who loves his or her play kitchen.Customer Review: Great toy!! My kids LOVE it!!

I purchased this toy to use in the bathtub. The cupcakes arrived and were of high quality. My daughter (2 1/2) couldn't wait to play with them. She loves putting them together (top of cupcake fits into bottom of cupcake shape...and then the cupcake fits into the cupcake tray, also by shape). My 1 year old also loves to play with the cupcakes...although she can't fit the shapes yet. The top of the cupcake floats in the water, while the bottom sinks down to the bottom. She loves to find the bottom part and then match it to the floating top part. Needless to say...she can't wait to get into the tub to play with these cupcakes. I would highly recommend this toy!!
