We purchased this microscope for our home and our science loving sons. For the price, this is a very effective tool for our sons to use independently. They've learned how to mount their own slides to examine as well as examine pre-made slides. I've taken this unit to Sunday School to show a group of children a science experiment - with great success!
However, the battery life is fairly short (about 2 months of off-on use). The newer the battery, the better and brighter the picture is. Order spare bulbs as well, it comes with one extra (or two bulbs total) - but finding additional bulbs takes time and effort! Our first bulb lasted three years. We're on our second now and I've got new on order.
Overall - a good purchase for younger (less than 12 years) children or children's groups.
