Toys and Games Reviews of Learning Resources Pretend & Play Doctor SetCustomer Review: Fun for children Summary: 4 Stars
Fun toy, its amazing how a 3 year old will know how to use each of the tools in the kit. Children are incredibily perceptive and silently observe all that occurs in the doctors office. With this set they can recreate the visit in a constructive playful atmosphere and diminsh or eliminate any fears of going to the doctor's office. My daughters favorite piece is the 'syringe', don't worry, it is quite harmless. She loves giving mommy and daddy shots.
Two of the toys come with a batteries already inside (the beeper and stethascope), interestingly the cell phone does not include a battery.
The case is handy as it holds all the pieces, although I find I'm the one putting all the instruments back and not my daughter...hmmmmm.
Only four stars as the plastic seems rather cheap and I would expect to pay between $10-20 instead of the somewhat expensive $26.00. Still it makes a great gift for any child who has visited the doctor.
Customer Review: Complete set Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered this doctor's kit for my 4 year old and he loves it. I think the best part about it is that it comes with a variety of pieces to complete the doctor's set. Some of the pieces have working parts. The blood pressure cuff has a gauge that spins when you pump up the cuff; the cell phone and pager are both battery powered and make sounds; the thermometer has a temperature display that can be changed according to the patient's condition; and the stethoscope has a button on it that makes coughing sounds (although, I wish it actually worked like a real stethoscope. I will probably buy one that is more realistic to replace this one). The glasses are a cute addition, however, they are too small to fit on my son. They fit better on his 1 year old sister.
Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. My son loves to play doctor and fix up his patients!
Customer Review: solid set but maybe too realistic Summary: 4 Stars
I got this for my niece (2) and nephew (4) for Christmas and watched them play with it for a while. Some thoughts:
PROS
Carrying case - All the pieces (20 or so) can be stored in custom-cut plastic cutouts. It takes a bit of strength to get them out the first time, but I'm sure it becomes easier over time.
Electronic pieces - the stethoscope makes a heartbeat and coughing noise, and the pager makes some beeping noises when you push its three buttons.
Decent quality - I'm sure this won't last for 10 years, but I think it will last until they outgrow playing doctor.
CONS
Too realistic - the set comes with a scalpel and surgical scissors, and I had to explain what they were when my nephew asked. Kinda gruesome.
Overall a decent set though. Didn't see anything else on Amazon for the same price...
Customer Review: Made a 6 1/2 year old happy Summary: 4 Stars
My daughter really enjoyed this set and set to work immediately with the included glasses perched on her nose and brandishing a stethoscope. The quality of the pieces is decent with batteries included (surprisingly) in the beeper and the stethoscope. The blood pressure gauge spins when the bulb is squeezed and the cuff is sized right for a small bicep. The stethoscope makes coughing sounds when pressed and the beeper beeps with an emergency light displaying. There is a syringe whose plunger works but in a safe fashion and then a couple of surgical tools. This toy is more than adequate for a safe medical make believe between little friends and has enough variety of items to sustain an extended role play. The box that contains everything is pretty sturdy and has solid catches to keep it closed. At the current price point of $18+, it is a reasonable buy.
Customer Review: Fun but lacks quality Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered this for my granddaughter's third birthday and was pleasantly surprised when i received it. It had a lot of parts - many more than others I observed. However, upon opening I found the stethescope did not make any sounds as was advertised. Also, the cell phone did nothing when I put batteries in it. I called Amazon and received wonderful service on the return and replacement which I received the next day. Upon checking the new set, I removed the stethoscope from the box and the tubing came off the ear piece. I used some krazy glue to reattach and it now works just fine with all the sounds as advertised and my granddaughter loves it. I have an old fisher price doctor kit that belonged to my daughter and it is still in good shape after 30 years! They just don't make things like they used to.
