Customer Review: Almost too much

My two year old daughter received this as a gift to go with her new kitchen, and our very first impression was, "Whoa! This is a lot!" This is a very complete set of kitchen gadgets for a child. Not just the basics, this set includes a potato masher, a kitchen timer, even ice cream dishes! We joked that our daughter was now ready to get her own apartment...
That being said, this set is almost too much for one child. I would really recommend this set for a day care or a play room that frequently gets several kiddos playing at once. For a toddler, a more basic set is plenty, especially considering most play kitchens are small and don't hold too many accessories to begin with. This play set boasts 70 pieces! For us, most of them stay in the toy closet in a box and I only bring a few out to play with at a time. For a toddler with a toddler-sized kitchen, I would recommend going with a small set. My 2.5 year old doesn't even know what most of these accessories are yet. I realize this can be a teaching opportunity, but I'm not necessarily concerned with her learning what a potato masher is at this point either. The set as a whole, in my opinion, is a bit overwhelming to her. However, considering how complete this set is, if you have a kid who is really fascinated with the culinary arts and cooking, this could be a really good set!
As other reviewers have also noted, the plastic is softer than one might expect. While we haven't had any pieces break or suffer damage from play time, this also isn't the most durable set. My daughter also has many wooden kitchen toys and we much prefer those over the more flimsy plastic. Seeing as we have a girl with a pink play kitchen, this primary color scheme also doesn't fit as well with all the pastels we have going on. I think this would be an excellent kitchen set for boys or if you have both boys & girls to keep happy at home. I realize this is not important to many people, but for those of us who enjoy decorating our children's rooms with color schemes, these bright colors can be loud in a little girl's all-pink room. Just something to consider if you're gifting this, is all!
So while I don't hate it, I'm not thrilled with this toy set either. I feel this kitchen set is less appropriate for the majority, but definitely a great set for certain environments such as day cares or homes with more than just a couple children.
