Toys and Games Reviews of Scootin Sounds ThomasCustomer Review: TERRIBLE FOR CHILDREN LEARNING TO WALK Summary: 3 Stars
Our 12 month old son is learning to walk, so we wanted to purchase him a walker/rider for Christmas. Since he loves Thomas, we settled on the Scootin' Sounds 3-in-1. The black handle is flimsy, unsecure and falls off easily. During our son's first pass behind Thomas, he pulled the handle upward and stepped forward, causing the handle to come unattached. He then started to fall forward and nearly smacked his face on the "hitch" that protrudes from the rear (thankfully, I caught him before he got hurt). Our son recieved two other walker/riders from relatives for Christmas, a Little Tikes "Handle Haulers Haul & Ride" and a Fisher Price "Gobble & Go Hippo." Both of these walker/riders have mechanisms that lock the handle securely into place, making them safe for children learning how to walk. I have no idea what Learning Curve was thinking when they designed the handle for Scootin' Sounds Thomas. It is simply terrible.
To be fair, Thomas does excel at being a rider. Our son loves being pushed around on this toy and really enjoys pushing the buttons to activate the sounds. We like the fact that the sound volume can be adjusted or turned off easily. The only downside is that Thomas is a little larger than most walker/riders...our son's legs aren't quite long enough for him to scoot Thomas by himself (to us, this just means that it will take longer for our son to outgrow this toy).
In conclusion, DO NOT buy this item if you intend to use it as an aid for children learning how to walk. If your child is a stable walker or you intend to use it as a rider, then the Scootin' Sounds Thomas is a really good choice.
Description of Scootin Sounds ThomasSit n Scoot Thomas is a great first riding toy that encourages activity. Any motion your child makes activates real engine sounds to provide a fun reward and exciting ride. The 3-in-1 design allows toddlers to scoot along, push it around, or be pushed along by an adult. The Motion-activated sounds will encourage scooting around. Scoot n Sounds Thomas features normal / low / off volume setting for sounds--the #1 feature requested by moms! Secondary sound buttons layer music, whistle, or railroad crossing sounds over the top of the engine.
