Toys and Games Reviews of Leapfrog Learn and Groove RadioCustomer Review: The idea toy for our little boy Summary: 5 Stars
Our 14-month-old son LOVES this toy. He can't get enough of turning pages, and this has several plastic pages that not only turn, but make interesting musical trills when they do. The little buttons on the side he loves to push, and when the description of the object on the page is in song form, he'll dance along. And he loves adjusting the volume, too.
My only two complaints: not enough music to really call this a "radio" (I was hoping for mostly music, as our son loves music) and some of the songs are the same, down to the point where you can hear where the new word is inserted into the same musical track. Seems a bit cheap not to record a new version of the song!
However, the fact that this is very durable and has lots of pages to turn makes this still a GREAT toy. And I'm learning Spanish every time he plays with it in Spanish mode, too!
Customer Review: Educational, but beyond annoying Summary: 2 Stars
Like all LeapFrog toys, this toy is both educational and durable. However, as a parent, this is the most annoying toy we own and the reason for my low overall rating. I dislike the volume switch because it goes off-low-high and it's a slide switch right on the front, nice & big. My kids slide it all the way to high volume and it's very loud. The bilingual switch is very prominently placed on the front and very large/attractive. My kids are constantly pushing the big, yellow button to change the language. Then, the slightest touch activates the toy. The outcome is that this toy plays ALL THE TIME and frequently in Spanish. This toy is annoying enough that we banned it from car trips.
Is it educational? Yes
Do my kids like it? Yes
Do I recommend it? Only for use in wide open spaces
Customer Review: Love this toy! Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter and I received this as an adoption gift to welcome her arrival from Russia, and it has been one of the best toys that she received. At 2 years old, she loved being able to push the buttons to make music. As she learned English, she loved acting out songs ("pat your tummy; pat, pat your tummy") or answering the toy's questions ("Is it a bunny?...No,it's a dog") Even though she's now fluent in English, she still enjoys playing with this toy at 3 yrs old because she loves the music and cute voices. It's been very durable, and the batteries are still the originals, too.
I would recommend this for anyone as a new baby gift, toddler gift or for any child who needs to learn to speak English.
Customer Review: A different kind of radio Summary: 4 Stars
Our daughter received this on her first birthday. She wasn't too interested in it at first, but has since grown to really enjoy it. It's not really a radio. It's almost more of a see and say, with a little music. But it has so many options, it's great. When the child pushes the button next to a picture it tells what the name is, and sings a very short song to go along with it. I am very thankful there is a lower volume option, as our daughter likes to hear the same songs over and over. I also really like the option to switch everything into Spanish. This has been a great way to teach our daughter some basic Spanish vocabulary. Overall, I would recommend this toy as a helpful vocabulary builder.
Customer Review: A Great Learning Toy Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this item yesterday for my Nephew and my husband and I can already tell it is going to be one of his favorites. He loves pushing the buttons and dancing with the music. He is fifteen months old and this is the perfect vehicle to help him along as he begins to speak his first words. I agree with all of the other reviews, in that the english/spanish button is a little too easy to push and I don't know how confusing hearing the different languages without understanding that they are flipping back and forth on him so quickly is, but other than this, I think this is a wonderful teaching tool as well as a great toy. I don't think you can ask for more than that :)
