Customer Review: Not Much For Learning
Summary: 2 Stars

Given our success with other Leapfrog products, I thought this would be a good introduction to learning on a handheld "computer" for our 3yr old granddaughter.

But it is very limited and poorly designed from a learning standpoint. The one positive is the puppy as a central theme...gets the kids attention. But the graphics are primitive.
The qwert keyboard is fine and shows the letters in CAPS...but when the kid presses the keys...ie A it shows up on the screen sometimes as an A and other times as lower case a. Confusing for the child...and there is no button to switch it from lower case to all caps...sort of a random event.

The game with shapes and moving the puppy to cover them...is a good learning game. But that is about it...the calendar is not much, the music game is OK, the text messages is way too advance for little kids. The bubble letters are an OK idea...but should start out at a stop...and when child gets better...then have it speed up across screen...at beginning too fast for young kids.

In summary, I was very disappointed even for just $17...being it was a product of Leapfrog.

Customer Review: It's a winner
Summary: 4 Stars

I have an almost 6 year old and an 18 month old that got this for Christmas. They both fight over it which I didn't expect. The older one doesn't learn anything from it because he already knows his letters, sounds, and how to read/write basic words but he still has fun with the toy anyway. He especially likes pushing "k" because it shoes the character karate kicking the letter k lol. And he likes the texting feature. His first text that he sent was "I love you". My younger one is the other range of the toy... he doesn't really know what he's doing he just likes pushing the buttons and hearing the signs and music that follow. He will eventually start to pick up on the letters though. His brother learned his letters using the fridge phonics (by leapfrog also) while I cooked. I'm a big fan of leapfrog toys (except the leappad that didn't want to work). Now don't expect most children to like this toy after the age of maybe 4? Mine is just easily amused :P But for the younger ones, they'll like it. And it doesn't even have a scratch after my youngest repeated throws it when he's done. On sale, it's definitely worth the money.

Customer Review: Awesome Learning Fun
Summary: 5 Stars

My 3 1/2 yr old son loves this. He's been playing with it very frequently for a few months now, which is much longer than most toys. I really think it's helped him learn his letters tremendously. He can recognize every letter on sight anywhere he goes, and even has started writing his own real emails to family (all I do is tell him how to spell the words). And it's "kid proof"; its been knocked around, dropped down the stairs, stomped on, etc, and still no problems. The only thing he didn't like is that the games were slightly confusing to him at first, so he stuck with the letters part, but now he's getting into the games. So its not really a drawback because it leaves more features to explore once he's conquered the basics. On a side note, he especially loves the dog mascot "Scout", which is our dog's name too. Even if it weren't, "Scout" is a fun, friendly character that helps make learning fun. I never thought an educational toy could be so entertaining and effective. We're going to get the Scribble & Write now too so he can work on writing his letters.

Awesome product! Great job Leap Frog!

Customer Review: Love It!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this toy for my 21 month old grandson. Debated buying it after reading some negative reviews but since he loves Mommy and Daddy's blackberries figured how far wrong could I go? Well, this toy has been a big hit and is one of his favorite toys. It has a keyboard that is the same as Mom and Dad's. My concern was the poor display screen written about in other reviews but this doesn't seem to be a problem for him. He is young but is able to push letters and says the name of the letter and is so happy when he gets it right. As he gets older he will learn to do the other activities the toy offers. It has been a tremendous help in his learning to recognize the site and names of the letters. He loves the doggie -- we are now teaching him that the doggie's name is Scout. The toy holds his attention for longer than most toys and he keeps going back to it. This is the first Leap Frog toy that I have purchased but will now be a loyal customer of the company. It is a toy that is wonderful for the two year old (or slightly younger) and a toy that will grow with them.

Customer Review: Excellent learning toy!!

My baby learned alphabet before he turned 2, thanks to this toy!

I got this for my baby when he was about 16 months old and he loved to sit in my laps and watch me press buttons and play with it. He would bring it to me asking to play because he was too small to even press buttons, I liked the fact that it can keep him engaged and I can do it with him. After a while he was showing me which buttons I have to press and I realized that he is really learning. I started asking him for a letters and he was sure enough showing me. He knew letters before he could say them or even press buttons! Before he turned 2 he could sit and play with it all by himself and figured out all of the games this toy has, he loves it. This toy is marketed for kids 3 and up, but it is a great learning tool for my 2 year old - the key is that you have to show to the kid what to do with it, everything is new to them, they will not be able to figure it out, we are talking babies here. This toy is a jump start to other computer games or toys or anything else.
