Customer Review: My Daughter LOVES TAG!
Summary: 5 Stars

At first I was very reluctant to purchase this product, I was very curious at the same time. After reading all the customer reviews I can possibly search for, there was no way I could not go out and purchase this product for my 5 year old daughter. I put her on the computer and had her try the demo she fell in love with it! I rushed over to the store and invested $200.00 worth of Tag merchandise. This product has taken our reading time to another level. My daughter is putting words together and she is recognizing words as well. She has been learning something new everyday. It also raises educational questions that your child may never would have asked before like what does endangered or extinct mean? what types of animals are endagered? I love this product and my daughter can't wait to get more books. They also have a good selection of books that contain many game activities. I was also able to download five books along with the activity cards in the Tag pen. Installing the software was a breeze and downloading all the stories into the pen took literally fives minutes I was amazed.

Customer Review: LeapFrog Tag reader
Summary: 5 Stars

My son loves this! He "reads" as many books as he can. Right now his attention span for reading the books is short so he doesn't usually get through a whole book. The words are pretty choppy if you just "read" them individually. It sounds like someone read the book and then an editor broke those words apart. We haven't figured out a way to make it sound smooth. My 7-yo did discover how to make the pen tell the stories without the books (it is listed in the manual).

When I was researching the reader before purchase, I was unaware that you download the books onto the device. The memory is relatively small (16 mb)and won't hold all of the books (about 6 at a time) in the LeapFrog Tag library which I found disappointing. I'm sure my son will too when he finds out he has to chose which book to delete in order to add a new one. The books are downloaded to your computer from LeapFrog so you can easily reload them. I thought the devise could read any book in the library at any time. You cannot just go buy a new book and give it to your child to use with the reader.

Customer Review: Great Learning Toy, However
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this for my 3 year old grandson who is "pre-reading", and he loves it when the batteries are up and he has the right book. HOWEVER, he quickly loses intersest when he can't make it work (ie, the batteries run down, which happens pretty quickly, or he picks one of his books that are not on the "5" downloaded books).

The concept of this learning toy is great, however, I think, as usual, LeapFrog left the really important stuff on the cutting room floor. Memory is cheap,, let them download all the books into the reader so they can pick up any book and read it. Otherwise, parents, do yourself a favor and don't buy more than 5 books.

There is no power source here except batteries and when his batteries go down, he wants nothing to do with it again.

My grandson has had this toy less than a week and he is already losing interest in it. He loved it initially when it all worked, but between the loose of Power and the inability to read "all" his books, he has put it down and does not have much interest in it anymore.

Customer Review: Great Preparation for Kindergarten
Summary: 5 Stars

The only downside to this is I think I enjoy it more than our 4 year old does!

The ability to log into the computer and see your child's learning path and scores is priceless!

It does take some parent introduction to teach your child how to use the system and that it's fun. However, after one night of working with her on it she was off and running. I look forward to many more hours devoted to this fun and educational toy!

Don't make the mistake though of thinking the "rewards" your child earns are actually interactive games on the computer. They are actually more like reward stickers they earn at school - stars, bookmarks, etc.. As well, the reader only holds 5 books at a time so it can become frusterating constantly having to switch the books out of the reader based on your childs attention span. (Who wants to read the same 5 books over and over again).

So far our favorite is "I Spy" which is great for parent and child alike. You'll be amazed to see what your child is able to "spy" that you are not!

Customer Review: Teacher comments
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Tag system and the Fancy Nancy book to go with it last winter for use in my first grade classroom. After teaching the class how it works, I set it out as a center/finished-work option. It's great because it levels the field between struggling readers, who will have the story read to them while they follow along, and more advanced readers who read the story and use the pen for help with challenge words. There are a lot of sound-effects and surprises worked into the pictures, which are not just entertaining but increase comprehension and the ability to imagine/mentally experience what is going on in the book. It is always exciting to find something that children find to be fun and I know is helping them practice important skills.
The one downside is that you have to use the internet to download the stories onto the pen and I'm unable to use the TAG software at school. I had no trouble acccessing it from home, though.
Other than that minor issue, I highly recommend this system for kindergarten and first-grade children.
