Customer Review: Great idea for early readers and younger sibling too!

This is a smart toy for early readers. It works well and reads the pages perfectly. I do find that my younger daughter (2.5) plays with it more than her sister (almost 4), for whom it was purchased. I don't know if it's just because it talks, it's her sister's toy, or if it's just that the older one really isn't in to it? My only two complaints are battery life...geez, this thing goes through batteries like crazy. The girls don't use it all THAT much but it's constantly telling us to replace the batteries. I wish it was rechargeable or had longer battery life. The other complaint is that I wish it held more books in memory. It seems like we have upload, reload, change, etc. what's on the reader too much.
I do like the activities at the ends of the books, where they work on sounding out words. I'd recommend this toy but would tell everyone to stock up on batteries at your local warehouse retail store!

My 3 year old grandson has loved the Tag reading system with the books we got for him (especially Cars- Tractor tipping.) Part of his bedtime ritual is to have a book or 2 (or 3) read to him, and the Tag reader is now incorporated into this time. He enjoys touching different objects on each page to hear the sounds they make --- it's sometime amazing how many times in a row he wants to hear the same sounds. I think it will be really helpful shortly when he has the patience to try actually reading the individual words, but we'll see how that actually works out. I've already bought 4 more books for him since he has had so much fun with the three he has. He also like to do the activities, though his parents have not tried uploading the results of those activities.
He uses it independently as well as with parents.
All in all a really great "educational toy."

I own every single Leap Frog item you can name. From the Baby Leap Pad to the Leap Pad plus writing and the game systems. Why did they not come out with this sooner. No seperate books and cartridges to carry. As long as you have the pen, it works with the books and you can still play games and read the books, the same as those older versions where you have to have a special Thing to place the book in and the book plus the cartridge to put inside the thing. Too much to keep up with. The pages are not the most durable and do tear easy unlike the pages on the Little Touch Leap Pad. And at times my kids do get tired of reading the books eventually. We have like 20 books and the activity cards and the two spelling boards that can come with it. Highly recommend this over any of the other products. And the books are cheaper than the cartridge/book models.Customer Review: Great toy but had trouble installing on PC, successful on Mac

I love the toy and my son spends a lot of time reading it. Installation was a pain on my PC. I kept getting a message that said cannot connect to internet. We tried and tried and could not get it to work. I then went to my Mac computer and installed it. Everything looked great but I did get one message saying there was an error during installation please drag the folder to trash. When I did it a second time it suddenly worked. I'm glad it did I was beginning to get hot over spending so much money for something I might not be able to use. If I didn't happen to have a PC and a Mac I don't know if I ever would have installed it. I hope the rest of you out there don't have the trouble I had.
I hope I can buy that orange pen that holds 20 books, without having to buy a class set of books. I will call and find out. Wish me luck.
Customer Review: LeapFrog - Excellent Product - Awful Support for Laptops

My child had a great time playing with this toy, which we had connected via a desktop computer, until we went away for Christmas and tried to use our Mac laptop to maintain the tag reader. We got a "checking tag reader" message forever. The laptop does not recognize the device. Online documentation to resolve the problem (effectively saying 'try plugging in again' or 'try uninstalling tag connect software and reinstall it') is useless. We spent countless times trying to plug in and upload audio to this device, literally hours of wasted time.
Then a call to customer support to resolve the issue resulted in a 50 minute wait before we gave up without getting any human support or answers.
I do *not* recommend purchasing this product until the connection issues with laptops are resolved.
