Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Learning DrumCustomer Review: great toy but shuts off too easily Summary: 4 Stars
My daughter received this as a christmas gift. I loved it as soon as I saw it. She's 7 months old and likes to bang everything...now she has this cute little drum toy to bang on..what a great idea! She bangs it and it talks back and flashes numbers/letter/patterns. Awesome toy. The only thing I don't like is that it shuts off within 10-15 seconds, if it's not being banged! So I have to keep moving the slider to restart it for my daughter...that's a little annoying...so I give it 4 stars...otherwise it would have been 5 stars. Oh, by the way just because it's a leapfrog, doesn't make this a learning toy for an infant! it's just a lights & sounds toy. An infant is not going to learn numbers and letters from any toy, not matter how ingenious. It's just a fun toy and a great idea for infants that love to bang on everything anyway.
Customer Review: Great for a one year old Summary: 5 Stars
My son is 15 months. He received this toy as a Christmas gift last Christmas when he was only 4 months. He was obviously too young to play with it then, but he has grown into it, which it is why it was bought at such an early age. It took him a while to learn how to bang the top of the drum to make it play. He does get frustrated when it stops talking after if he hasn't played with it for a few minutes. But he has learned to turn it on and off. He loves pressing the music button. He loves music and dances to it every time it plays. I do recommend this toy, but this is more for toddlers rather than a nine or ten month old, unless your child is extremely advanced. My son is quick to catch onto things. It is a great and fun way for them to learn their a,b,c's and numbers. Great toy, very educational. I highly recommend this toy.
Customer Review: Love It Summary: 5 Stars
My son has played with this toy starting at 6mths - to current 9mths. He loves this toy so much that we have two, one at home and one at Grandma's!
The Good:
1. It is fun, still after three months is still a top toy in our home
2. Interactive with the baby.
3. Easy for little hands to hold onto and grab
4. Small enough to pack on trips
5. Has volume control options
6. Very durable
7. Long life batteries. I have not changes them yet.
8. Has different options of play (music, alphabet, numbers, and an actual drum play setting)
9. Has automatic shut off when left alone for a short period of time
10. Has an off switch - big in our home!!!
The Bad:
1. The number setting only goes up to 10. Not too big to me since my son is only 9 mths.
Customer Review: Not what I was hoping for Summary: 2 Stars
My 9 month old son loves to bang things, but for some reason, he gets bored with this almost as soon as he starts playing with it. I love Leapfrog toys, and this one has such high ratings, I am surprised it's not a bigger hit. The only thing I can figure is maybe he doesn't like the kid's voice shouting the letters (I know I don't). Plus, it turns off much too quickly and there is no way a baby can reactivate it unless he happens to hit the star button in front. It would be nice if you could re-activate it by hitting it, but that doesn't work.My son prefers the LeapFrog Discovery Ball. It has really helped him learn cause and effect. He loves spinning the ball. Plus, it has a volume control and can also be re-activated easily by spinning the ball. In our house, it definitely is superior to the Learning Drum.
Customer Review: My daughter stills plays w/ this toy...8 mo. later Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this toy for our daughter after she played with it for hours while at a friends house. Our friends daughter who was three, absoulutely loved this toy. When we bought it, our daughter wasn't skilled enough to push the buttons, or slide it to change the "game", but she could definitely hit it. She actually got more enjoyment out of tossing it or picking it up and dropping it , b/c it would say a letter/number or sound everytime it got bumped. Also, I can say for a fact, that this toy is very sturdy. My husband accidently left it on top of the car while we were packing up to go on vacation, and a couple minutes later we saw it fly off the car through the rear view mirror. Amazingly, it still worked, which we're grateful for, b/c now that our daughter is 15 months old she still loves to play with it.
