Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Learning DrumCustomer Review: My Einstein Baby Summary: 5 Stars
My 9 Months old daughter get's bored easily. Which means, she observes her surrounding more often now. At this stage I noticed she wants to play adult gadgets, like real car keys, boombox, cellphones and our computer keyboards. Plushy toys are too boring for her. She just throws them away like "ah...boring!". She can interact quickly by different sounds of musical tones, coos with the alphabets and numbers, catching the lights by tapping it with her fingers or her palms. I rate this toy more than 5 stars because my baby is advance as her pediatrician informed me. I also suggest Sesame Elmo cellphone toy, Atom fisherprice. Anything with Alphabets and numbers and different sounds, flashy lights can stimulate our baby's brain development in an excellent growth. Anything that they can hold or grab easily. Like taking it out from its original place. As a good mother, I want whats best for my daughter is for her to learn quickly and efficiently.
Customer Review: Wear earplugs! Summary: 3 Stars
My 14 month old son plays with this, probably every day, for about 5 minutes at a time. He likes to bang on it, and likes the music and lights, but I don't think he gets much from it. Like other reviewers, I think the combination of music and letter or number names mudies the waters. I also find the children's voices on this drum ANNOYING. They say things like "Hit the drum! It's fun!" to try to entice kids to return to the toy once they've lost interest. There's also very fake-sounding kids laughter, and the volume is very, very high, though there are high and low settings. I find nearly all electronic toys too loud and often end up putting tape over the speaker in addition to using the low setting, which gives about the right volume for me. I would recomment Leap Frog's Alphabet Pal, which has more truly education fare. (If you can't tell, though, I prefer non-electronic toys, so perhaps my judgement is too biased.)
Customer Review: Buy it while they are still young! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased this toy for my 16-month-old son and I wish I would have purchased this drum 10 months ago. He likes the drum a lot, but doesn't play with it as much as he would have at around 6 months old (he has a lot of "bigger boy" toys that this toy has to compete with). However, I rated the drum 5 stars in all categories, because it is an overall great toy. It is very durable and has survived my son banging it on the floor and throwing it several times. It has a great educational value. My son has begun to repeat the letters and numbers that he hears as he hits the drum. This toy also increases my son's independance and lessens frustration (thus lessening tantruming) because he is also able to turn it on and change the modes all by himself. Overall, I am very happy with the toy and look forward to keeping it around for my next child to enjoy at an even younger age. I highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Good toy, but don't be misled! Summary: 3 Stars
We received this toy as a gift and were very excited about it. We found all of the features to be great, except for the follow the beat mode. No matter if you play the correct beat or not, it tells you that you are correct and gives praise. If you're thinking, 'no big deal' imagine if a toy said 'press the letter A' and even if you pressed Q it would affirm that choice. The rhythms keep changing too, so you can't even ask your child to try it again yourself. I think that it is a good letters and numbers learning tool, but don't expect your child to develop good rhythm from it. It is a fun toy, think of the follow the beat mode as pure entertainment, not educational and you won't be disapointed.
If you want a way to develop rhythmic skills, play a hand clapping game (patty cake, etc.) or simply clap an easy to remember rhythm ('shave and a hair cut.. two bits') and have your child copy you. Hope this helps!
Customer Review: Never gets old! Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter got this before she was born, and as soon as she was sitting at five months...this was THE toy. She loves all the settings...the ABCs, the 123s, the musical, and the plain drum sound. There are childrens' voices who cheer her along, applaud, and encourage her as she drums. The ABCs and 123s actually light up across the dum as she jits it, so she can hear and see it! It is so SMART Now that she is nine months, she knows how to change the songs by pressing the buttons so it gets less old to the adults. This toy will continue to have more learning value as she learns to speak. The ONLY thing that they can do to improve it is add a multilingual setting (Spanish perhaps) and add a lower volume setting (there are already two, but a little quieter would be nice for the adults). Overall, I STRONGLY recommend it for your babies and for friends' babies.
