Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Learn & Groove Musical TableCustomer Review: Consistantly a Favorite Summary: 5 Stars
My son began playing with this toy at 7-mos, shortly after he could sit up on his own. The legs are removable so that the table can sit on the floor for childrenwho can not stand or pull themselves up by themselves. When my son was cruising, this table was a favorite because he could practice his walking and play at the same time. Now, at 18-mos he still loves this toy! He delights in turning the page of the book located in the center and pushing, sliding, and turning all the other gagets.
As a parent, I love the variety of melodies. There are enough that you don't get sick of them. I also like that the toy will play music or say words that illustracte actions or colors. My favorite is the lid that covers an empty space. It plays music when lifted, like you are letting the sound out of the box. Then when you close the lid, the music instantly stops.
The page of the book has come off several times, but is easy to snap back on the book. The legs are sturdy and toddlers won't be able to remove them. My son has climbed on top of the toy several times and stands up to his weight (25lbs). It's definitely worth the money.
Customer Review: Good toy, but electronics and durability are questionable Summary: 3 Stars
My daughter loves this toy and has been playing with it since she was in the "cruising" stage. A year later, she is still using it and loves it. It is great for the little ones, but we have had some durability issues.
My daughter hasn't been particularly rough on it, but it hasn't held up as well as most of her other toys. Pretty quickly, the little door kept coming off. Now it has come off so often, you have to work to keep it on. Now we just keep it off all the time. Personally, it doesn't seem as sturdy as some of her other toys.
The biggest problem we have had with it is it acting flakey. Sometimes, the table would just start making noises even though it hadn't been touched for hours. The only way we could fix it is to turn it off and on. Sometimes the buttons/controls act erratically, and you just have to keep turning it on and off.
If the durability and electronics issue would be resolved, I would definitely give it 5 stars. If a toy can't stand up to a child playing with it and it starts acting erratically, then it loses a lot of stars because of that.
Customer Review: Wish we'd purchased this earlier! Summary: 5 Stars
We got this table for our son when he was 8 months old as a present to help ease a cross-country move for him and he LOVED it! I researched a lot of the activity tables and chose this one because it makes the most music and our son loves music.
When we moved, our son had just learnt (like the day before) to pull himself up in his crib and had been making careful tries at cruising in there. Once we stood him at this table he couldn't wait to try everything out. We showed him how to make everything work and he took it from there, by the end of his first week with this toy, he was cruising around it and everything else like crazy.
We hide his pacifier or cheerios in the little secret compartment and he always is thrilled when he finds something in there. Occasionally, we take two of the legs off and let him sit in front of it; he acts like it is a new toy! I would recommend this toy for anyone whose child is starting to stand up holding on to things. But it can be a floor toy too, so it works for sitters and tummy time as well (once they can bang on the keys and stuff). Great toy!
Customer Review: Boring - don't understand its popularity Summary: 2 Stars
My daughter received this as a gift when she was 6 months. She is now 9 months and she still doesn't like it much. I find it awfully boring as well. Whenever you push a button or start a musical reaction, it goes on forever. So how can a child understand cause and reaction if they are pressing buttons and the song goes on for 10 seconds? I think it would be a better toy if each button plays a shorter, different sound. All the songs sound the same after a while. The table has never kept her attention for more than a minute.
The good thing about it is that she is learning to stand and it is a good base for her to learn balance (with me monitoring of course).
Also, it seems our newer version doesn't have legs that can be easily removed. The instructions say you can, but provide no instructions on how to do it. The older ones pop on and off very quickly but we nearly broke ours.
If you want to get this toy because it is popular and recommended to you, I suggest you let your child or you try it out first. See how boring it really is.
Customer Review: Best learning table, lots of fun for babies & toddlers! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this for our son when he was 7 months old & he started playing with it immediately. Even though he couldn't stand yet, we had it leaning with 2 legs & it was perfect for him. A few months later, we put the other 2 legs on so he could stand with it. He loves flipping the page back & forth between learning & music. He has always been able to play with each of the features. He stands next to it & dances to the music and loves the banjo & violin. Both learning & music modes are fun & easy to use. As with all the Leapfrog toys, the music is great. I find myself singing the songs all day long. In the learning mode, it teaches colors, ABC, numbers and more. In the music mode, it plays music with the various instruments. Our niece who is 4 also loves to come over and play with it. My son loves this & can play with it for a long period of time because there's so much to do. We looked into the Fisher Price baby grand piano as well as the Fisher Price learning table, but bought this table because there's so much more to do. This is a MUST HAVE and a great value for the money!!
