Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Learn & Groove Musical TableCustomer Review: Both kids love this Summary: 5 Stars
We got this as a gift for my 4-year-old when she was little and she loved it. Definitely played with it way more than other toys. We love that it's bilingual - Spanish/English... all the Spanish pronunciations are good except for maybe the "rojo" which she now points out as a little funny (the "r" sounds more like English than Spanish). My 10-month-old now loves playing with this too and has enjoyed it for the past few months.
We stored this in our garage for about two years in between the two kids and it kept well, apart from one of the legs breaking when I ran over it with my husband's truck... but that's technically not a manufacturer problem at all. I will say that a spare part has been hard to find and if the rest of it wasn't in such good shape, I'd consider buying another one. As it is, we have it (three legs on) propped up on a toy box and the kids don't seem to mind.
As with all noise-making toys, there will be times when your kid will be "stuck" on one part of the table and it will drive you nuts and make you want to take out the batteries, but luckily this one has so many different sounds, it's not near as repetitive as other toys are. I find myself singing along.
Overall, great toy! One of my kids and my favorites.
Customer Review: Wonderful educational toy, just wish it was a little sturdier! Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this for my son when he was about 6 months old because I saw him using it at daycare, and he really has loved it. It plays so many songs, and the lights really catch his attention. Initially we used it without the legs attached, and it was amazing how you could hold his attention just by rotating it around so that his eyes would focus on a different portion of it to play with. It made it a great toy to travel with---the grip handles underneath make it easy to carry when you're trying to carry a baby and a diaper bag, and it's compact enough to throw in the car trunk without taking up much room. It has become my go-to toy for long day trips to the grandparents' house (where there isn't a stockpile of age-appropriate toys) because we can play with it for 20 minutes before boredom sets in, then return to it a little while later by focusing on a different part of it (or switching from "learning mode" to "music mode." The only thing about it I would change is the legs...they're easy to attach, but I wish they were a little heftier. My son is in the 90th percentile for height and weight, and it tends to slide away from him if he leans on it. I always feel like I need to anchor it against my leg while he's playing with it when the legs are attached.
Customer Review: THIS is why children have ADD these days! Summary: 2 Stars
My in-laws got this for our 1 year old daughter to play with at their house. Granted, she is entertained by all of the music and flashing lights, but really no more entertained than if she was given a fun cardboard box to play with!
The issue I take with this toy is that as soon as you push another button, it stops whatever obnoxious song it was singing at you or color it was shouting out at you and starts in on another! So you could be 10 letters into it singing the alphabet and then if the child pushes anything else it would stop singing the alphabet and shout out something like "yellow!". No wonder why kids all have ADD these days!
Furthermore, it's inconsistent, and if it's going to make any kind of a claim as a learning toy, it must be consistent! For example, sometimes if you push the yellow square button it will say "yellow", but other times it will say "square". To me, this is confusing to a young child because now they've heard the same thing called two different things. For toys aimed at children this young, you have to teach one thing per object.
But, I'm a person who can't stand these obnoxious singing, blinking, light up toys! Give them some blocks and let them use their own little imaginations!
Customer Review: So much fun for our boy, AND for us watching him develop! Summary: 5 Stars
is toy has been a joy for our son, as well as us parents! When we first got it he was 6 months old and was not standing yet so we used it without the legs. His coordination was also still limited to pretty much slapping his hand down, so his favorites were any of the buttons, or that little ball-filled shaker that spins in place.
As happy as he was, that would have been enough for me. But it's been so much fun to watch him grow and slowly learn to use each of the other features. First he started learning to grab and flip things like the open/close box and the plastic book page. then he started using the various slide mechanisms etc.
As most other reviewers have mentioned, it's also great when they learn to stand. Once that happened we popped the legs on, and he loves to stand up at it and compose his tunes haha.
I've also noticed the problem some people had where the sound gets 'stuck' for one or more of the features and skips repeatedly. In our case it was just a matter of putting in fresh batteries and the problem was gone. Until that time, if you just turn it off for a while it will usually be fixed after you turn it back on, but will eventually come back.
Customer Review: Sturdy and a Lot of Fun Summary: 5 Stars
The positive reviews were right! This is a great toy with plenty of things to touch, spin and play with.
In the center of the tabletop is a 'book' that has a single page. When flipped one way, all of the surrounding items become learning toys for vocal music and musical instruments. Flipped the other way, everything switches to alphabet and number learning. It comes with OFF, Low Volume and High Volume settings - as well as a switch for English and Spanish.
A tip for those with infants not yet standing: don't insert the legs right away. Used on the floor without legs, the tabletop works perfectly and is easier to reach for infants still sitting or crawling. Once they're pulling themselves up and standing, go ahead an insert the legs (they're really tough to get out after-the-fact).
The tabletop is sturdy enough for kids to walk and crawl on it. But its heavy enough that it can't be easily lifted or used as a projectile. Once the legs are in, its stable enough for kids to pull themselves up and stand in front of without any worry of toppling.
My 7 month old thoroughly enjoys it - and it was a great purchase.
