Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Learn & Groove Musical Table

Customer Review: Great Toy for 6 Months Onward!
Summary: 5 Stars

This was the "big" toy from Mommy and Daddy that our (then) six-month-old got for Christmas. It is wonderful! We had read the other reviews, and so have taken two legs off, so it she can easily reach the different activities while sitting. A month ago, she was just flipping the "book" page back and forth, and spinning the shaker. Now, she is doing that, and moving the banjo, and opening-and-closing, and opening-and-closing, the little green door, and kicking the piano keys (and hitting them with her stuffed animal, too). She enjoys all the different things to do, and the sounds of the toy, and Mommy and Daddy like the great variety of music -- so far, it hasn't been annoying at all, which is a great feat! We have never turned the volume to high, because that seems a little too loud, but the fact that it has a volume control is wonderful. We all love this toy! (It got me to write my first Amazon review in years!)

UPDATE: She's now 21 months, and she's still playing with this. She's figured out how to turn it on herself, and has started identifying the characters in the book, and likes to flip the banjo so it plays its numerous songs and have a parent or grandparent help her sing the song. That's both good and bad -- it would be nice, sometimes, to be able to play the full song, but on the other hand, the wide variety means that it doesn't get monotonous for Mom and Dad. I still think it's a great toy for little ones.

Customer Review: Leap Frog Disappoints
Summary: 5 Stars

Leap Frog Disappoints

Just wanted to let you know how disappointing Leap Frog was in dealing with a broken gift I received. A friend from Georgia sent me a Learn and Groove Music Table, without a receipt, I live in Los Angeles. After 2 uses, it broke. I wrote to Leap Frog and they refused to take any responsibility or stand behind their product. They continued to give me the run around and sent me unresponsive, standard emails until I gave up. I asked for someone to call me and made several calls myself, but, to no avail.

This is too bad since I like Leap Frog products. But, fortunately for me, Fisher Price sells very, very similar products as Leap Frog and I have switched brands. Fisher Price, like many other manufacturers, are extremely responsive to any comments or questions I have ever inquired about, as have been almost all other companies, to which I have written - and, yes, I do write almost every toy manufacturer to get more information about their products. In the past, I have always been surprised and delighted at how much companies care, which is why I was so stunned by Leap Frog's lameness.

In the age of the world-wide interweb and the ability of just one little person to reach so many people through just one email, I think Leap Frog should care just a little more about my inquiry, aside from standing behind their products. You know, a little thing called integrity.

Customer Review: Great toy to keep baby entertained
Summary: 4 Stars

My mother bought this for my son when he turned 6 months old, and it's been a big hit with him ever since then (he's now 14 1/2 months old). I almost gave it 5 stars, but I think the product could use a little improvement. A fair amount of supervision is required when a child is using this toy. As other reviews mention, there is a fall hazard here. Also, it's easy for a little one to pull the thing on top of himself when he's standing (or to flip the table over as my son did), and even without the legs attached, once a child starts to push up to kneel or stand, it's easy for the child to fall over the unit when trying to reach specific attachments.

Nevertheless, the table is a great piece to have, as it generates a lot of different sounds/music. No matter what the baby touches, something interesting happens as a result. I'm glad there is the fake book in the middle with one page to turn (to change modes), as my son LOVES turning pages in all of his books, like most babies/toddlers, but I wish there were more pages to turn. When he was younger, he kept looking for more pages. Eventually, he figured out there were no more to turn. Perhaps a lights-only mode can be added, or maybe the book in the middle can be its own separate thing not tied to the mode.

Beware of the catchy tunes! I am constantly hearing them in my head, particularly the ones that sound like they're from a sitcom.

Customer Review: Excellent Longevity
Summary: 5 Stars

My mother bought this toy for my daughter's first birthday, though she received it about two months prior at age 10 months. She immediately took to it, and it strengthened her leg muscles when she was learning to walk. Despite numerous warnings to the contrary, she likes to climb atop the toy and it has proved very durable. Even now that she is 2 1/2 and over 30 pounds, it still holds up fine under weight. She has loved it from the beginning and the sounds are less irritating and more enjoyable than other toys. There is a "musical" quality to the sounds that can get annoying ditties in your head but doesn't grate on you as you hear it over and over, if that makes sense. At her current age, the toy continues to be educational as she learns to differentiate letters, shapes, colors, numbers and musical instruments (though she now kneels rather than stands at the toy). It's also nice to have such a versatile toy around when friends bring their babies/young toddlers over to our house. There is a volume switch on the bottom which took her a long time to find, so as long as your child is young and you don't show him where the switch is, it is easy to keep the toy's volume at a low level. I just love all LeapFrog products and have not yet been disappointed with a single one of the many we own.

Customer Review: Best toy I have ever bought
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the first review I've written anywhere for anything, so that should tell you right off the bat how great this toy must be! I bought it for my 6-month old, who is now 11 months, and she has enjoyed it non-stop. She played with it while she was in a sitting position when she was younger (propped the tabletop up at an angle with just two of the legs), and then when she started to stand with support, she used it in full table mode. The variety of music is the best thing about this toy - there are so many songs triggered by the different mechanisms on the table, it's really great. And the songs are really not too annoying. When the baby flips the page of the book, the table changes from music mode to singing mode, teaching the baby the alphabet and commands like "up/down", "high/low" and "open/close". And there's a switch that changes the language to Spanish if you prefer. Another positive to mention - my child has really abused this toy, flipping the plastic book page back and forth rapidly, and pulling on the banjo lever over and over. I am surprised it hasn't short-circuited. I could go on, but I don't want to get any more wordy than I already have! Bottom line is that if you want your baby to self-amuse a little while you enjoy a cup of coffee in peace, then this is the toy.
