Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Learn & Groove Musical TableCustomer Review: Not as good as the older version Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this table for my 7 month old since I had owned a previous version of the same thing (minus the Spanish part). Unfortunately I gave it away, so I recently purchased it again. The main board itself is great, fun, and keeps the attention of the little one. The bilingual addition to this toy is fantastic. It has a great variety of activities/sounds so not only is the little one entertained by it, parents don't have to hear the same things over and over again.
However, the legs feel really flimsy this time around. The older version had extra stabilizing 'feet' when you add the legs so there would be less tendency to tip over. I don't know why they decided to stop making them with this feature other than a cost issue on their end. Also, some of the new versions do not have the tabs on the legs, so once you attach the legs on, you cannot remove them. Which is again strange since they claim on the box that you can remove them. (apparently, the Leapfrog Company has told people to return this version to the store and get one with the tabs, but good luck finding one with tabs) The plastic legs are also more prone to bend in places it's not supposed to bend(I found this out when I tried to remove the legs.) Luckily, I was able to exchange it out as my baby doesn't stand up yet.
So, in summary, if you want to buy this table and your little one is still not ready to stand, check to see which type of legs the table comes with. If it has the tabs, you are in luck. If it doesn't, do not put the legs on until your little one is ready to stand.
Customer Review: BEWARE of unstable legs Summary: 3 Stars
This table is fun, but buyer beware regarding the legs on this toy! First, many of the pics of this item are NOT of this item! The table with the wide feet and blue lights around the center is an older item which is no longer made (I tried the older version at a friend's house and loved it). The wide feet provided a wonderfully stable base for this toy. However, the new version (with red lights) has unstable legs which are prone to tipping on your child. The legs are also NOT detachable on all units. I was told by Leap Frog that the only way to know whether they are detachable is to unbox the toy and look on the bottom of the item for a "press here" indicator where the legs attach. Seriously?? I'm not sure of a store that is going to allow me to open all the items to find the one with detachable legs! That said, I have the one with the NON-detachable legs and mistakenly attached them BEFORE my child was able to stand independently. Any attempts to use this toy to pull to stand result in this toy tipping onto my child. UGH! So, this toy requires VERY close supervision (as in my holding onto my child while he plays with it in order to avoid him pulling it over onto himself). Other than that, the noises are a bit annoying with a very jazzy lady belting out sounds and songs, so I typically leave it in the OFF position. Why oh why can't toy makers make SIMPLE cause and effect toys with short bursts of sounds rather than these long, annoying, never-ending songs and sounds? Oh, how I miss the simpler times!
Customer Review: Great, but... Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter loves this table. I bought it for her because she is not yet crawling but she LOVES to stand. She will stand and cruise all day if I let her.
The educational bits seem good, but it's hard to know what she's really absorbing, so I can't go with a 5-star on that.
Here are my two complaints about the "durability" (I put it in quotes because I don't know if these are really comments about durability or just design): one, it's not very heavy. My daughter can't pull herself up on it--it tips over. Maybe when she's better at pulling herself up and just needs a little assistance, it'll be better, but she can tip it quite easily. Two, the bottoms of the legs don't have any texture on them. They slide really easily on the floor, especially on hardwood floors, but even on our rugs. This makes it hard for a baby who is using it to stand to not slide all over the place.
Neither of these issues are huge deals because when she plays with it, I hold it in place. Just know that if you have a pre-walker, they'll need a little more vigilance.
My daughter LOVES this table! (It's worth repeating.) She likes pushing the buttons, turning the page in the middle and opening/closing the little door. The "learning mode" is a little repetitive for me, though, and I get a bit sick of hearing "red...green....green...green....yellow....green....gre-green, green." Haha. Worth it for the joy of the little one, though.
Highly recommend!
Also, still engaging for the toddlers that come visit. :)
Customer Review: Very entertaining Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this when my baby was 6 months old. I propped it up on two legs and at the time, he could only really manage to play with the bead wheel. He's now 9 months and has figured out all of the gadgets. His favorite is the banjo turtle. It has a great assortment of music or words, so it doesn't get too annoying. It only takes a couple AA batteries and the battery life has been great so far. I love all the options and my little boy can spend a good amount of time in front of it. So far, on 2 legs, it has been sturdy enough for him to pull himself up on it. I haven't put it up on all 4 legs yet, so I'm not sure how sturdy it will be at that point.

I've put this on all 4 legs since my son is walking now. He has lost some interest in it being that it's "old news" but he still plays with it from time to time. It's sturdy on all 4 legs and we've only had to change the batteries once since buying it.

This toy still sits in our livingroom and my son (27 months) still finds interest in it. Right now, he's enjoying the banjo. He finds something new about it and sticks with it for a while. Prior to his banjo phase, he was playing with the piano colors and is actually learning his colors this way. Prior to the colors, he loved the ABC song and started learning his ABC's from it. This is an amazing toy. I've now changed the batteries twice in it since purchase...so great battery life with only 2 AA's.
Customer Review: Excellent toy Summary: 5 Stars
Outstanding learning toy...I can see how this will be fun for my son for a long time. He is 11 mos. and is using it to improve cruising skills. Even with a short attention span, he is quick to return to the table shortly after he leaves it to play with something else. He is utterly fascinated by it. It is fun for parents and kids, as the music and verbal material is very pleasant to listen to. The added bonus is that it teaches Spanish, which helps his bilingual training. It is has a very nice "ABC" song in Spanish, with a pleasant sounding female voice for the Spanish mode. It will also sing in soprano "blueeee" or "azuuuuul" (spanish for blue), when the kid presses the blue key on the piano. This is all when it is verbal teaching mode. When u put it in musical mode, it just rocks out, playing all kinds of instrumentals. As an amateur musician, I really got a kick out how sophisticated this equipment is. For example, there are a circle, square, and triangular buttons which sound like very intricate conga drum solos when u press them in music mode, and in verbal mode, it will say "yellow...circle" and obviously the same in Spanish mode. Very nice piece of equipment that will surely have your child entertained and learning. I look forward to seeing him evolve with this and become a little Herbie Hancock, as he learns to manipulate the different sounds instead of pressing things randomly, kinda like a little DJ! Buy this one. Well worth it.
