We purchased the leapster for my son who is a very active child and hates to sit down to "learn". He is a little behind in school and we wanted to get something to help him learn but have fun at the same time. He gets bored easily so we were hesitant to make any purchase that would require more than 30 minutes of his time. However this was a huge hit! He enjoys racing and often selects the more advanced levels. We ended up buying a second leapster for my daughter. This has made our 40 minute commutes much easier!
My only complaint would be that it doesn't have more games in the unit itself. I also would like to see more games on a preschool or pre-K level.

I bought this for my daughters 4th bday and she LOVES IT. My son got the Leapster Lmax about 6 months ago for his 6th bday and when my daughter didnt get one at Christmas, she has been begging us! I decided to get the new Leapster and not the Lmax mainly becuase after reading several things about the 2 systems, I assumed that the only difference is if it can connect to the TV or not. I was right. When the Leapster came, I opened it and put in one of my sons Lmax games and everything worked. It was much worth saving the money! We have never used my sons system on the TV, so I used the saved money, and bought a charger and more games. I highly recommend this product for anyone with young ones.Customer Review: My 4-Year Olds favorite x-mas present!!

I got this system on black Friday with 3 games for a deal. I didn't even know if my 4-year old daughter would like it, but for the price I had to! As soon as I put batteries in the system my daughter sat and played with it for a very long time (even took it with her on a bathroom break!) My daughter is not a sit still kind of child so I wasn't sure if she had it in her to sit still and pay attention long enough to play! We have had it for a few days now and she is able to play with it all by herself and it keeps her attention for a long time. We got the disney princess game for her and she loves it! She is writing letters and following instruction very well! I love the leapster!! Great buy!Customer Review: Great tool for learning!

I purchased this for my three year old, since she has a friend at daycare with one- she wanted her own.
I also bought the Wall-E game and Disney Princess game for her to use, and her brother begs for turns on Wall-E. My son has his own Leapster with the Cars game-that one they both share as well. The Jedi math is a little scary for them, so we'll save that one for later.
We also like the preloaded games, since Coloring Corral is so easy to play, and Rabbit River reminds me of Frogger.
Easy to get the games set-up, but a little hard for not so dextrous three year old hands using a stylus to type in names, etc. Overall well worth the money!
Customer Review: Buyer Beware - Older Models are Better!!!

We bought our friends the older/triangular/rounded model over the holiday and they were having some basic trouble with it. The LeapFrog company suggested that she just exchange it for a new one (this model) to avoid future problems. They now have this new model and are very unhappy. The screen is about half of the original size, the new design is harder to hold on to and there are "mini" commercials for their other products when you turn on the device. They already have your money, this is supposed to be an educational toy, now marketing has taken over. We are very disappointed in this new product and urge any buyer to look for the other model.
