My 4 1/2 year old daughter received this as a Christmas gift from Santa. By the 26th, the stylus pen no longer worked on the screen. When I tried to go through the screen calibration instructions, the screen would read "Touch the center of the target," but there was no target on the screen. I returned it to the store later that week for a new Leapster.
She plays with the games constantly and I've seen a huge jump in her interest for adding numbers, writing letters, and pre-reading skill, which I love. Unfortunately, three weeks later, the second unit has broken again - with the same problem! I will exchange it for another unit again, because I definitely see the educational benefits, but I would have expected greater durability for a toy geared towards 4 year olds.

I bought this for my 5 year old twin daughter- her sister had asked for one for christmas. Although she didn't ask for it, anyone with twins will tell you not duplicating is an excercise in stress!!
Well- since the minute she opened it she hasn't put it down. It has been a huge hit . the "games" are age appropriate and she won't outgrow them too quickly. Great quality product- backed up by more online fun at a complimentary website. I had to talk my husband in to it big time because of the $ issue , but even he has to agree it is WELL worth every $.
We purchased rechargeable batteries and that has worked well- althoug the batteries in this seem to last much much much longer than my 9 yr old leap pad did- i wish I had purchased one of these for him instead

This was a gift for our 5 1/2 year old daughter. It was a reluctant purchase given the intense focus that kids have on anything with a screen and a knob, when all I'd like her to be doing is settling into a book (yeh, right mummy!) However, being forced to admit defeat, the Leapster offers a fair compromise and captivates the little users with its demands to follow directions (something the first school report had pointed out wasn't being done so well), as well as number and letter games + more, all combined with favorite characters such as Disney's princesses and Dora making this not so inexpensive purchase a bit of a winner. I'm sure there's a few more cold Winter afternoons after school when the Leapster will prove both useful to me and my darling kindergartner.Customer Review: An instant hit

We decided to purchase this as a Christmas present for my 4 year old. She loves learning, and although she has a leap pad, it isn't very functional for on the go learning fun. Since Christmas, she's barely put this down. I was amazed at how quickly she learned how to use it, and how friendly and durable it is. I would suggest screen protectors for it, however, because the potential for the screen to get marked up by the pen is there. I'd also recommend investing in a good set of rechargeable batteries and a speed charger; if your kids are anything like my daughter, it's a constant companion in the car, at home, and everywhere in between. It kept her thoroughly entertained while we were negotiating prices on a new car, and that speaks volumes to me :)Customer Review: Great for child with ADHD

My husband and I got the Leapster for our 7 year old daughter and are very happy with it. She is a child who typically can't focus on any single toy for more than 2 or 3 minutes at a time. She has ADHD and normally jumps from one toy to the next. We have tried all types of toys...dolls, dress-up items, board games etc... Nothing has gotten her attention for long until now. For some reason this toy has grabbed her attention and gotten her to focus. She is understanding educational concepts that have been very hard for her to understand in school. These are the same skills that have left her in tears in the past. I am VERY impressed! This is a GREAT learning tool for our daughter and we highly reccomend it. The Leapster is well worth the money!
