Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Leapster Learning Game System - PinkCustomer Review: A sweet investment Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter started out with the LeapPad, and my 3 year old son has the Little Touch LeapPad, My first LeapPad with desk, and the original LeapPad. We never owned the "older version" of the Leapster, so I never noticed differences. However, from what I've seen of my nephew's older one, I'll keep the new one. A slightly larger screen isn't important enough to me or my 7 year old to override the more bulky, less efficiently designed older one. Aside from this Leapster being very easy for my daughter to handle, she loves that it fits in her purse, instead of having to tote around another bag, and I love that it's so easy to change the batteries, she can do it herself! Also, neither my daughter nor myself have ever noticed "commercials" on it. I highly recommend the Leapster as a fantastic educational & fun alternative to video games-which aren't allowed in our home. Even the built-in games (including an educational version of my childhood favorite, "Frogger") are very fun. My 3-year-old son sits and watches and helps my daughter answer some of the letter & number problems. In the short time that we've had it, just from watching over his sisters' shoulder, he has learned his entire alphabet and can do simple addition too! A+ for this Leapster! I only wish there were more games available for 1st through 4th grades!
Customer Review: Loved the original Leapster-disappointed with the new colored versions Summary: 2 Stars
My 6 year old son got a silver Leapster last Christmas and loves it-so does my 3 1/2 year old daughter and a 3 1/2 year old cousin. My mother got both children Leapsters for Christmas (a pink one for my daughter and a green one for the cousin). Much to everyones dismay the new colored Leapsters come with 2 less games than the original (my daughter was so excited to get the Leapster but started crying when she realized her favorite game was not included). I wouldn't be so upset if Leapster had indicated this on the packaging or had named it Leapster2 instead of calling it the same thing-Leapster. When complaining to customer service at Leap Frog it was said that when they upgrade a product they don't make it the same-they improve it. Yeah improve it with 2 less games so you have to purchase more software (they probably found that children love the software that came on the original Leapster so much that parents weren't forced to buy lots of additional software for it). Now you can't even purchase the software that came on the original Leapster to use with the colored Leapster. Anyway, the cousin is returning his green Leapster and getting an original silver and I am debating what to do since my daughter really loves the pink color of her new leapster.
Customer Review: Great educational toy....Who knew?? Summary: 5 Stars
I had difficulty a few years ago buying my son a portable video game and I finally decided on a Gameboy Advance (DS and PSP not popular then & too expensive!) over the Leapster b/c the Gameboy had so many more games available. Boy, what a mistake! The gameboy requires ALOT of reading and my son just finished 1st grade this year, so he really didn't get much use out of the gameboy. Then, just a couple of months ago, our neighbors were moving and gave my 3 yr old daughter their leapster with about 6 or 7 games and carrying case. Both of my kids love this and it's SO MUCH MORE EDUCATIONAL than any other video game system I've seen. My son now has his game boy and a Nintendo DS and they argue over the Leapster. It's great for any child as the games are really fun (I like to play!) and the directions are spoken and don't require a child to read sentences to be able to understand how to play a game. This is a GREAT 1st or only game system. Thanks to our friends, we have a great educational toy that my kids love to play and has been very durable. The case is great and makes it easy to store everything and take it with us. My 3 yr old can even pack and unpack everything in the case. Great Choice!!!!!
Customer Review: Beware what accessories you buy!!!! Summary: 1 Stars
The pink leapster is great; however, when you put this item in your shopping cart (no matter what retailer you use), you get the recommendation to also buy the leapster recharging system and small blue leapster carrying case. I did so and got burned since neither of those fit. Even leapfrog.com recommends those items for the pink leapster. Problem: my daughter ripped everything open, packinging was tossed, and how do I return to the place from which I purchased them? Called leapfrog and they took a lot of time to determine that , yes, I was correct that those products don't fit despite their recommending them. Conclusion: I'm going to have to negotiate with my retailer to return products for which there is no packaging. I'd rather have a root canal than travel to a store this time of year. None of the retailers, including leapfrog.com, mentioned that you need to use the pink backpack and the leapster l-max recharging system for the pink (and I imagine the other colored systems) leapster. I've heard they are great at support, but they won't swap items with me because I am changing products (even though the cost is the same). Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Customer Review: Great Christmas Gift Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter recieved this as a gift for christmas. After all the presents were open and family started to leave, she remembered she openend a "video game" and asked to see and play with it. that day she played with it off and on for maybe an hour. The next day i was able to sit down with her and explain it a little better and show her how to play the game, and then from that day on, this is her favorite. It has made our daily car trips into town, very quite. It's so nice to not have the fighting going on in the back seat with her brother. right now the leapster is only used in the car, but it has been worth every penny. She has figured out the games instantly and really enjoys it. Very easy to figure out. She's not "computer" savy yet, never played anyone else, and yet, she took to this so quickly. She has also shown what a big girl she can be in taking care of her game. She got the carrying case for it as well, as every time we stop the car, she turns off the game, and puts it back in the carrying case and puts it out of harms way where no one can step on it getting in and out of the car. It was a great purchase and she loves it, and loves that it is pink!
