Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog LeapStart® Learning TableCustomer Review: Sheer Excellence!!! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought the Leap Frog table for our daughter's first birthday, and I can honestly say that every day I am reminded what a great purchase it was! Every time I see it in the store now, I think to myself, "I am so glad I bought that toy!" Both our children (1 & 3) love it, and love to play with it together.
Our barely 3 year old learned the "ABC" song in one day from this toy, and after struggling with his numbers 1-10, he now can count without a flaw. My daughter stands, holding onto the table and dances to all the different music. There is plenty of variety with the activities and music, and keep my children both occupied for up to 45 minutes --- well beyond their natural attention span.
I love how sturdy it is with the "new" legs - my 3 year old has a very difficult time turning it upside down even when he is really trying to flip it over, and he is one very strong little guy. I have not been at all worried about my daughter pulling up on it, and balancing herself with this toy.
This toy is excellent, and it has been one of the best toy purchases we've ever made!
Customer Review: Granny's House Summary: 5 Stars
I was getting ready to have my 9 month old granddaughter come for a four day visit while her parents went away. I ordered this toy after reading the comments. My house is small and the snow of a northern Michigan winter was going to keep us inside for the weekend. This toy was a huge hit...in fact, my daughter asked how I found out about such a wonderful toy. I was certainly pleased to have selected a toy that was a hit in the eyes of both my daughter and my granddaughter. The toy is very stable which is great for a child who was beginning to stand up with assistance. The versatility oif this toy is fantastic - both music and alphabet. The variety of parts for the child to play with was a hit. The toy is something that my granddaughter keeps going back to - it's not something that she played with once and then never again.; The toy keeps her attention. Her favorite thing right now is to put small toys in the little compartment with the lid and then she "finds them" and squeals with delight. I highly recommend this toy for any Granny to purchase for their grandchild. You'll be a hit!
Customer Review: Fine, not great Summary: 3 Stars
I got this at my baby shower, my son started trying to play with it at about months, when he was able to sit.
Here's what we like about it:
1. Easy assembly!
2. Removeable legs so he can play with it on the floor while sitting.
3. It's fun, he especially loves the spinning rattle and the piano keys.
4. The counting song is fun, it sings the alphabet and even though he doesn't know the difference, he can change it from the counting/alphabet/colors to the musical knowledge thing fairly easily.
My only complaint is that it's still hard for him to reach more than one item at a time, as it's so big and even sitting to his side, he can't always reach. It was too tall with the legs on to slide his legs under and let him play sitting.
UPDATE: Now that he's 9 months old and standing, this is a favorite toy. He can reach across it much more easily standing than when it was without legs and he was sitting. The manufacturer says 6 months and up, I'd say forget the fact that the legs come off and wait until your child is standing for this one.
Customer Review: Great Toy! Just watch those little fingers !!! Summary: 5 Stars
My son started playing with this toy when he was about 6 months and loves it !!! There are lots of lights, fun music and singing, which has always made him laugh. I think there is probably too much going on for it to be educational, in that it doesn't teach him the "abc's" or how to count, but I do think it helped teach him cause and effect. Plus it's a lot of fun to watch him play with this. One warning, though. There's a little "book" (the editor's review refers to this) in the center of the toy to that baby can flip to change the mode. My son loves to flip this book back and forth, but has left the other hand underneath and has, as a result, pinched his little hand on more than one ocassion. He has just recently (five months later )begun to tire of all the lights and noise. In infant months, I consider this a healthy life span for a toy (plus I'll pull it out of the closet again in a few months). I believe it was worth the money and space it takes up in your house. Buy it and before you know it you'll be singing all the little jazzy numbers yourself, too !!
Customer Review: Son LOVES it, but watch the purple door... Summary: 4 Stars
My 10 month old son LOVES this table. That said, I do not like the fact that the purple door on the table comes off so easily. My son, who is still a little wobbly when he tries to take a step sideways, is constantly pulling the door off as he loses his balance. He has even fallen and knocked his chin on the table because the door came off as he lost his balance. When I called the company to find out if this is a defect, they said "no", that it was designed to come off so little kids' fingers wouldn't get pinched. Huh? This doesn't make any sense. If the door comes in contact with the table, there is a potential for the child's fingers to get pinched. If you want to keep their fingers from getting pinched, you must design the door to leave a fingers-width gap between the door and the table when it closes. Anyway, I've just taken the door off so he doesn't try to use it to keep himself in balance, which he hates because he's REALLY into opening and closing things right now. However, he does love the other features of the table, so that's why I haven't returned it.
