Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog LeapStart® Learning TableCustomer Review: Great Toy Summary: 4 Stars
The LeapStart Learning Table has many great features. The legs are removeable, which means that Baby can use it very young when first learning how to sit. It would be nicer if they were somewhat sturdier or heavier. The table is too light to be a good pull-up trainer, imho, as it basically just slides right out from underneath the Baby even when placed on carpeting. The open/close/hello/goodbye lid is awesome conceptually... except that it is not fastened very well and after 50 or so open and closes it comes out... and then it never really stays in very well again (does someone TEST these toys for durability???). It would also be nicer if in music mode it played more than just the two melodies. The side with the sliding horn bit is too boring. Baby never seems to want to play there. The swirling banjo is my Baby's favorite. The other activities are not bad at all. All in all, this toy is worth the price, but I hope the engineers will come out with a new and improved version with some minor tweaks.
Customer Review: Daily fun Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far the best toy we've bought for our 8 1/2 month son. Our son has played with this toy several times a day for 20 minutes each time since we bought it two months ago. In addition to the fact that I now can get some things done around this house (and that would be enough), there are other great things about this toy: -It's sturdy enough for little ones who are working on balance to pull up on, lean on, and cruise. -It teaches a variety of concepts, including numbers, the alphabet, opposites (open/close, hello/bye bye), colors, and shapes. -The sounds and music are really catchy. It has two modes, a numbers/letters and a music mode. Both include really fun, jazzy music, made by different instruments (piano, banjo, trumpet, violin, a music box, etc.). The numbers/letters mode also includes singing by a real human - not just electronic sounds. A nice change from the usual. -The toy has a volume control. I would recommend this toy without reservation. Great job, LeapFrog!
Customer Review: Great toy that will last Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter received this toy when she was 8 months old. She loved to listen to the music. It made her laugh so much to be able to touch something and hear something in response. She is now 20 months old. She has literally played with this toy everyday since getting it. It is truely a toy that will grow with your children. Now she uses it to dance to. She is also starting to learn the ABC song from it. She plays the song and gets a few letters in the right order. She loves the color and shape recognition also. Not many toys will last this long and keep a child's interest this long. Many say they will, but just don't. My daughter loves it. We have only replaced the batteries once. It will only go off when touched so the batteries are not wasted when we leave it on. (We have never turned it off.) It is a great toy and will still be in great condition for our next child, nothing has broken, come off or even scratched after a full year of intense playing. We love this learning table.
Customer Review: A hit! Summary: 5 Stars
My son received this as a gift when he was 4 months old. We didn't attach the legs, and he played with it as a floor toy. He couldn't quite work some of the features at first, but the lights and sounds motivated him to keep trying and his dexterity improved quickly.
At about 8-9 months, when he indicated a desire to pull up, we put the legs on, and it became his favorite toy bar none. It really appealed to him to pull up on it and play, so he worked hard to do so. He's figured out all the games, and switches from "learning" to "music" mode on purpose. He can play for a solid hour on this toy. He even "sings" along with it.
Now that he's 10 months, he's using it to cruise, walking all around it. When we put it on a smooth floor, like in the kitchen, he uses it as a walker, holding onto it for balance and pushing it to move.
We wouldn't have bought this ourselves, but that's just because we didn't know how great it is! We owe the giver big time.
Customer Review: Wonderful! Buy it again in a minute! Summary: 4 Stars
Our VERY active 15-month old started pulling himself up on this at 8 months when we bought it for him. It wasn't long before he could wander around the entire table. Unfortunately, the leaning on the toy resulted in a very annoying repeat of whichever button he was leaning on ("red, red, red, red, etc"). We've had to put it away before he turned 1 due to the fact that he would tip it over and try to "surf" on the bottom of it. The toy spent more time upside down than anything else. He actually broke off the little "open/close, up/down" door, after which, he'd attempted many times to tear off the "page" in the middle. Quite the durable learning center, but the only thing he learned from it was how to be more destructive as we had to put it away before he could really learn any real information. Hopefully, when we pull it out for the next baby, he won't ruin the experience by completely breaking it, but, I'd just have to buy a new one.
