Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Hug & Learn Baby Tad PlushCustomer Review: Pleasantly Surprised Summary: 4 Stars
I was skeptical of another battery operated toy when my son received this for his first birthday. It took him a little while to figure it out but now at 14 1/2 months it is one of the few toys that gets a lot of use. He asks for it by name (he calls it "dad" which we finally realized was "tad") and it has been fantastic at helping him get to sleep at night. He discovered that pressing one hand plays from 1 -6 minutes of lullabies and if he is still awake at the end he presses it again for more music. He used to cry every night when we left the room, but this toy has almost completely stopped that. We just have to remember to take it out of the crib when he falls alseep because it's easily activated by touch. I love that it turns itself off quickly when not in use and it teaches colors/shapes as well as playing entertaining music. He also has the Leapfrog Learning Drum, which he liked for a week but doesn't hold his attention nearly as much as this. I would definitely recommend it for his age group.
Customer Review: We've had this toy for almost a year and still LOVE it! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I purchased this toy for our daughter when she was six months old. She is now 16 months and we all still love this toy. It talks and says things like "I love you" and "Let's snuggle." It sings six different songs such as "Bah, bah black sheep" and "Hickory Dickory Doc" and plays about six different instrumental songs. The shapes on Tad's bib light up while the music is playing. It also tells you the name and color of each shape when you press on it. Tad can be programmed to play the instrumental songs for one to six minutes. We've used this feature many times to lull our daughter to sleep. It's also great entertainment in the car. When we first bought it, our daughter was mostly amazed by the lights and colors of the shapes. Now, we're having fun watching her listening and learn the songs that Tad sings.Tad has a soft exterior and the battery pack is hidden inside. We've really had good luck with this toy and would definitely recommend it!
Customer Review: Best baby gift we received Summary: 5 Stars
Our daughter received this gift on her first birthday. It was such an incredible crib toy for her. It really helped with the transition period when she was learning to fall asleep on her own. And it often afforded us a few extra minutes of sleep in the morning as our daughter would often play with it on her own for a few minutes before crying for us.
When our son was born 2 years later, he inherited the toy. He is now almost five and he still occassionally likes to listen to the music to help him drift off to sleep. This has been the best baby gift we have ever received. After two children and six and a half years, it is still going strong and in great condition. It was a crib/bed toy that did not get played with during day hours (except naptime) so that helped its lifespan. It also helped to keep it novel and associated with the bedtime ritual.
I can't say enough good things about this and I'm sad that they no longer make this. It was well worth the money.
Customer Review: Baby Tad is obnoxious Summary: 1 Stars
My 6-month-old son's grandparents gave him this for christmas and he stared at it until someone pushed the buttons for him - which are pretty hard to push because the plush toy gives, so you have to keep pushing which is hard for a very young child to do - and then when he heard the voice he looked startled, then made a yuck face and moved on to the next toy. After a few attempts to interest him in Baby Tad, for his grandparent's sake, we tossed Baby Tad in the give-away box. Frankly, if he had taken an interest in it, Baby Tad probably would have ended up in the give-away box anyways because the voice is so over the top that I couldnt stand listening to it. It isnt really a little kids' voice and it isnt really an adult voice talking baby talk. I think it was closest to an adolescent cheerleader on helium. Whatever it sounded like, it was so obnoxious that even my baby boy didnt like it. There are better toys for learning about shapes and hearing songs to go to sleep with.
Customer Review: Bear Hugs for Baby Tad Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a Baby Tad for my then 11 month-old granddaughter for Christmas last year. She enjoyed the sounds, lights and music from the start. Her interaction with Baby Tad has grown over the months. She knows all of the nursery songs and is a delight when she insists that her mother or I sing along with her. She will press his hand over and over if she is looking for a specific song. She has always enjoyed the light-up colored shapes but has just recently caught on to the game of pressing the lit-up shape. She literally squeals with excitement when she gets it right and he sings one of the nursery songs for her. This past year my granddaughter has carried Baby Tad throughout the house and yard and insists on sleeping with him most nights and naps. Baby Tad has been dropped and accidently stepped on but continues to work as well as when he was first purchased. The battery life (x4 AA) is long compared to most of the other battery-operated toys throughout my house.
