Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Hug & Learn Baby Tad Plush

Customer Review: What a sweet, sweet toy!!
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter, who was eight months old at the time, received this for Christmas. What a beautiful toy! The voice is very clear and enthusiastic (not monotone like some toys). She really responds to it. The songs including "If you're Happy and You Know It", "Itsy Bitsy Spider", "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" are wonderfully done and I just love to watch her dance and respond to my clapping and hand movements. The toy itself has sounds to each of the songs, such as clapping to "If you're Happy" which makes even more fun! And I could honestly go on and on about the "Night Night" songs (no words). They are absolutely beautiful and I myself LOVE listening to them. I love how we can control the number of minutes that can be played (simply by pressing his hand that number of times). I love that it can be a long-term toy since, as she gets older, it will help teach her colors and shapes. My four and a half year old son loves playing with it, too. ... I didn't think it had a VOLUME CONTROL, but there is one located in his back at the bottom of the voice box. Thank goodness!

Customer Review: Boring Baby Tad
Summary: 3 Stars

I thought this little guy was adorable and I really wanted my son to like him, but he just wasn't interested. My son can be very hard to entertain, so it is probably not the fault of the toy, but it could have more variety in the activities it offers. The sound is clear and the voice is cute and the classical bedtime music is a nice touch, but in the end, it couldn't hold my nearly 7 month old son's attention for more than a minute or two. Aside from the cuddle and cuteness factor, I don't think it has much to offer. Only the two hands and the bib are interactive (the kiss on the cheek only does one thing) and my son didn't even attempt to touch any of the buttons on the bib, though he was able to activate both hands on his own before becoming bored. He also has the Fisher Price Learning Puppy which he loves. It has much more variety and teaches about body parts through songs and games. I've yet to find another toy that teaches body parts, but there are infinite ones that teach shapes and colors in a way that is more interesting to my son than Baby Tad was.

Customer Review: Not my favorite LeapFrog product but it is OK.
Summary: 3 Stars

I am a big fan of LeapFrog products having purchased many for my soon-to-be 5-yr old in the last 3 years. I am not convinced that extending the range to the lower age ranges is the best idea for the company as if toddlers do not respond well to the early toys parents may not buy the excellent educational toys aimed at pre-schoolers and older children.

My 12 month-old is not finding it easy to push the buttons at the moment, though of course skills increase all the time so I expect the toy will come into its own soon. Some people talk about using the toy at bedtime. Speaking for myself I would never intend to use this toy at nighttime to soothe a child to sleep - it is far too stimulating with all those lights! - so the comment by a reviewer that it only plays 6 minutes of lullabies doesn't worry me! I would never put it in a child's bed as if they rolled over the toy would be activated and wake the child. I do like that the toy is not excessively noisy and it does go to "sleep" pretty quickly if left untouched.

Customer Review: An Adorable Toy that Your Baby Will Love
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm usually reluctant to spend money on so called "educational toys"; they just never seemed to really capture my older son's attention. It was coincidence that I bought this Leap Pad toy last month. It caught my 13month old's attention in a store aisle. From the second she saw it she would not leave it alone. When I put the box with "Baby Tad" in it in front of her she kept hugging it. I bought the toy and put it in her crib for her to play with when she woke up. Since then she is obsessed!
The toy itself is very cleverly designed. The face is big and expressive. There is a chest pad with different shapes on it which either says the name/color of the shape you press or plays a tune. One paw plays nursery rhymes (an impressive number of them) and the other plays different classical music tunes to lull your little one to sleep. Based on how many times you press the button, the tune plays for 1 to 5 minutes.
I initially thought $20.00 was a lot for the toy, I'm really not sure why! This toy is worth much more!

Customer Review: LOVE IT!
Summary: 5 Stars

My son got this last year for Christmas, He was only a year old and at first he didn't play with it that much but he loved hearing what all the buttons did. You could see the excitement in his eyes when he pressed a button and something happened. He seemed so proud of himself! He's almost 2 and seems to be playing with it a lot more often than before (mostly because a two year olds attention span is a lot longer than a one year olds.)
My daughter is almost 3 1/2 right now and she plays with it all the time. In just a short time she has learned all the songs so she can sing along with baby Tad and because it's supposed to be my sons toy, she will occasionally let him sit next to her to hear the music and all the other button options. On rare occasions she'll even let him hold it to play with it. In short, they usually fight over this toy. If you can get beyond your child continuously pressing the buttons and playing the songs over and over again then it's definately worth buying it for educational purposes alone.
