Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Hug & Learn Baby Tad PlushCustomer Review: Both my kids love this toy Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter received Baby Tad for her 1 year birthday - and we could hardly get her to put it down. She was thrilled with the songs, the colors and the interactivity where she could push the different shapes and colors. In fact, my sister-in-law had to buy her daughter one, since she was just as facinated with it. She is now almost 2, and still plays with it, and her little brother loves it just as much as she does - in fact, they usually want to play with it at the same time. My only critiques are for the parents. There is a volume control on the inside battery compartment - because this thing is loud. Your children will love it, but it might drive you slightly batty at times. There is no off switch. If you're traveling, take the batteries out or your luggage will be singing the whole way. Also, it's only surface washable, since it has electronics - so cleaning it can be a pain. It's easy to clean the outside, but I'd rather there be some exterior parts that are removable and can be washed on such "loved" toys. At some point, it's just plain icky. Overall, it's a good toy that my children love, even if sometimes I do not. I would recommend it.
Customer Review: best toy ever Summary: 5 Stars
We recieved this as a gift for christmas. Our kids love it but our daughter is the one who has really taken to it. It is a great toy and she takes it everywhere she goes. She sings all the songs and I believe that learning the songs helped her to learn to speak early. At night we read books to her and cuddle and talk before bed but then we are able to leave the room with baby tad playing the night night music and she goes to sleep all on her own, which was an amasing happening considering her older bother was still wanting us to lay with him until he fell asleep, and she sleeps in a bed not a crib but she never gets out of bed. Then is shuts itself off. There have been times that I hear it come on or go off with out my help because she has learned how to turn it off and on and does it all by herself if she decides that she needs quiet or just a few more mintues of music. The only thing is, it is a loud toy and I had it for a while before I realized that it had a volume button(located on the back under the clothes where you would put the batteries). Once the volume is turned down it is a great great teaching and cuddle toy for all kids and parents
Customer Review: A must have for new parents! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought Baby Tad for my son when he was just a few weeks old. We could not decide which mobile to buy for his crib, so we bought Tad instead. He's been lulling our little prince to sleep ever since. (11 Months) The daytime mode is great. I especially appreciate that the songs are sung by a child-like voice. Many toys on the market now speak or sing in grown-up or "computer" voices. Leap Frog did a great job in recognizing that children respond to and are soothed by other children's voices. We get most use out of the night time classical lullabies. The sound quality is amazing. It's soft, relaxing, soothing music. The lights on Tad's bib light up individually in time with the syphonies. It's very soothing; especially in a darkened nursery. One thing I wanted to point out was the battery life. Don't buy the cheap batteries. Go ahead and buy the good ones. Tad lasts a long time with the good ones; not so long with the cheapies. The good ones lasted us over 4 months this last time with everyday use. The cheapies last a couple of weeks, and make Tad work irratically when the batteries get low. In short, buying Tad for my son was money well spent.
Customer Review: Outstanding Toy Summary: 5 Stars
My mother purchased this toy for my son when he was about 1 month old, and it has been his favorite toy ever since. At first, he loved to look at the lights and then at night the classic lullabies (you can program it to play up to six minutes) would lull him to sleep. At every stage of his development thus far, Tad has been there with him, and he has not lost interest. Now at almost eight months old, my son loves to try and push the buttons himself that light up and play nursery rhyme songs, and he laughs with delight when he hears them...we also sing them everyday. Tad teaches him shapes, colors, music, and motor skills so it serves an educational and developmental purpose. Tad also doubles as a cuddly friend (serves an emotional purpose) since my son has now taken to hugging him. My guess is Tad will be something my son pulls out of his closet later in life and remembers very fondly. This toy is educational, fun, durable, and safe...four of my requirements for great toys. Way to go Leapfrog! (p.s. Leapfrog also makes Lily which teaches different concepts, and they both come in mini size for easy travel.)
Customer Review: Totally wrong concept. Summary: 2 Stars
I received this toy FREE, thank God, from Leapfrog due to a minor injury caused by one of their other toys.
My son never liked this toy, but that is not why I am not rating it well. The buttons aren't easy enough for many babies to press, and as I mentioned in another review...
If a child is going to learn colors and shapes, they need to be learned separately because confusion is created. Could you imagine being a small baby and having some toy tell you that the same exact object was "purple" and "circle"? On the other hand, if all of the shapes were the same color, they would differentiate and recognize that each object is different not by color, but by shape. And vice versa.
Another issue is the night-time song. I don't know what parent would want their child in the dark with flashing lights and a loud song to try to get them to sleep. ??????
I am just so disappointed in the toy industry. I am a young stay-at-home mom, and the toys that were around when I was little were very thought provoking. These days, the toys do all of the thinking for our children.
