Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Hug & Learn Baby Tad Plush

Customer Review: Great quality sound!
Summary: 5 Stars

My 7 month old got this for Christmas and I am impressed by the clarity of the voice and music. It is not just a single note melody like so many other electronic toys, but sounds as though 2 or 3 different instruments are harmonizing, especially during the nighttime songs. It is really simple to "program" the one to six minutes of classical music. All you do is squeeze the right hand button 1-6 times and Tad will say 'one minute, two minutes, three minutes etc. till night night' according to how many times you squeeze the hand. My 2.5 yr old likes the toy also, but I can't see a child much older being able to learn much from it, as my daughter already knows her colors and shapes well. She enjoys singing along to the "daytime" songs, a few of which are Hickory Dickory Dock, Itsy Bitsy Spider, If You're Happy and you Know it, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Baa Baa Black Sheep. My only complaint is that it would be great if it were voice activated, as this would help soothe a baby at night and help with learning to sleep thru the night. (Vtech's Muttzart's Symphony Sounds does this and is a great buy!) All in all, I think this toy is of great quality and will be enjoyed for at least two more years at our house.

Customer Review: Good toy
Summary: 4 Stars

My son got this when he was five months old. He likes watching the flashing lights and listening to the songs.

Baby Tad comes to life when you press the lips on the side of his cheek, any of the six colored shapes on his chest, or one of his hands or a foot. He'll introduce himself and then say his next line. If you pressed one of the shapes on his chest, Baby Tad will say the color and the shape. Each shape has a song associated with it (Twinkle, twinkle little star, Baa baa black sheep, etc.). If you press a shape while the light behind it is flashing, Baby Tad will identify the shape, color and sing the song. While songs are playing, lights flash behind the six shapes, one at a time. Baby Tad's hand which is labled "Daytime" will also play the songs when pressed. The other hand is labled "Nighttime" and plays up to six consecutive minutes of classical music depending on how many time you press the hand. Baby Tad turns himself off after a period of inactivity and the foot is also an off switch.

I have no complaints with this toy, but we also have the Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn Puppy which we like better. It has more songs and sounds and it is much easier for my son to press its buttons.

Customer Review: We'll recommend Baby Tad!!
Summary: 4 Stars

I love all things LeapFrog, and of course had to get Baby Tad for my daughter. She's had him since she was 6 months old, and really wasn't very interested in him at first. I left him in the crib for her and thought I'd just give it some time. She liked his voice and lights when I'd punch his buttons for her...but she wasn't mobile enough to really do anything with him on her own.

Now she's 9 months old, mobile (crawling and pulling up) and I can hear Tad singing every morning (he sits in the corner of the crib waiting for her) after she wakes up before she wants breakfast. Usually about 30 minutes or so! Just this past week she's begun playing with him before she goes to sleep.

I don't know yet if Tad will really help her learn colors and shapes....but he sure is a friendly way to expose her to the concepts!!!

We already have Lovable Lily on a shelf in the hall closet for birthday or Christmas...I haven't decided when we'll get that one out for her, and definitely have plans for picking up the Little Leap fellow when it's time for that, too.

I wouldn't say it's a "must have"...but Tad (and friends) is definitely on the top of my list when I give gifts or recommendations to other people.

Customer Review: Don't need a rocker if you have loving arms and Tad
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this for us son before he was born. Good thing we did! From the time he came home from the hospital, we have used Hug and Learn Tad everyday. Our son is now four months old. It has been interesting to watch how he is developing and interacting with Tad. During the day we play the songs on his left hand. Our son has been reaching for the shape/color that lights up for a month now, but still can't push the buttons on his own. During the middle of the night after a feeding, Tad helps to put our son back to sleep with his night night feature. We do not have a rocker and we do not need one thanks to Tad. All we have to do is hold our son, comfort him and play the night night music. By the time the five minutes is up, he is asleep and relaxed. This feature also works during the day when he gets cranky and needs a nap. Tad makes our son laugh, giggle, interact and he tries to talk to Tad. We would rate this a five, but it is too early to tell how well it works for learning colors and sharpes. Tad is our son's best friend. (They also sell Baby Tad, but the colors all light up yellow with the exception of one. He doesn't like the little one as much either.)

Customer Review: Only thing as good is Loveable Lily!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought Tad, during Christmas shopping season, because I noticed him entertaining an adult!! He has a very delightful voice, and my son has loved him from the start. He "dances" and claps with Tad. He is one year old NOW, so has been intriqued with him so far for 3 months. My son has A LOT of toys, and this one is one of his favorites. He is not very good at pushing the lit up button before it moves to another one, but I play with him most of the time anyway. If your child is young, expect them to lose interest fast, if they can't get him to sing by themselves. But it is worth having still, until they do!! He will sing if you press the lit up shape (that he then identifies, and then sings the song) OR you can just push on his hand button. He sings six different songs, I think, and tries to solicit play, if put down... His voice is very clear, and I don't think too annoying... and my son loves to clap to "if your happy and you know it..."

Bottom line... worth the money if your child likes music, you like to play with them, and you want something simple but cheerful for them to play with. (would be great for the car too, once master making the buttons work...)
