Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Hug & Learn Baby Tad PlushCustomer Review: Mommy's Nighttime helper Summary: 4 Stars
Baby Tad is our son's favorite crib companion along with his blanket. He still doesn't like to go down for a nap or to sleep at night, but Tad has made it easier. We have tried many other crib companions but our son (trying to activate the mom and dad retrieval system) was really good at stuffing them through the bars. Thank goodness Baby Tad doesn't fit! During naptime we have often looked into his crib and seen him curled around Tad. Sometimes during the night our son will wake up cry for a moment and then we hear Tad singing and our son making noises... happy ones. Then follows the wonderful sound of quiet breathing as baby sleeps and Tad turns himself off. At 14 months, he obviously doesn't have problems pushing buttons on Baby Tad and for the two months that we have had him and the constant use he's been under we have never had to replace the batteries. While traveling it was very comforting to my son to have Baby Tad waiting for him in his pack and play for bed time. He threw up his arms and squeeled with delight when he saw him. One thing about Baby Tad that hasn't been so good is how easy my son has picked the paint off of Baby Tad's foot and cheek. I am assuming the paint is non-toxic but still it should be more durable so that little fingers and teeth can't pull it off. We got this as a present and would recommend it.
Customer Review: Expensive, but.... Summary: 5 Stars
Okay, so this is a super expensive toy. I did not realize how expensive it was because we received on as a present when my son was about two years old. I NEVER would have bought it on my own because I think it's crazy to price these type of toys so high. However, with all of that said, our son loved it for the next year and a half. Although he had developed his own sleeping patterns before the toy, be loved to go to sleep with it. In fact, one time we were at my grandparents house and our son was having an extremely hard time going to sleep in the unfamiliar environment. The only thing that helped him was the TAD! He hung on to it while he went sleep. He enjoyed pushing the buttons and having the power to play the songs when he wanted. He enjoyed cuddling with me, with the lights dim, watching the colors as they buttons lit up. When he was about three and a half he outgrew it and just stopped playing with it. We gave it to a local thrift store, but would have saved it had we known how expensive it was! Overall, I would say that the purchase was worth it, but I am glad I am not the one who did the purchasing. :)
What it is not:
A baby sitting device to "keep your kids busy" while you do something else. Play with your kids! Sing the songs with it! You and your child will have more fun!
Customer Review: Mom of special needs toddler - Her FAVE toy! Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter, who is developmentally delayed (micropreemie), received this toy on her second birthday 8 months ago. It is by far her favorite toy! I love it, too! Her 4 year old brother has fun, also! The sound quality and voice clarity are great! At first, she could not figure it out, but quickly learned how to squeeze the hands to make it work. She then quickly progressed to learning to do the left hand for nursery rhymes (Tad actually sings them...not just music like many other toys) and the right hand for classical (which is on a great timer!) Just recently she learned to "search" for Brahm's lullaby to be the first song played. I swear her first words will be "Hi! I'm Baby Tad!" =) I was very excited this past month when she learned to push the button on his chest that was flashing and hear the color and shape.About 6 weeks ago the right hand stopped working. I called Leap Frog and they had me mail Tad in. I received a new one, even though the warrenty period was over several months ago. It was hard to part with Tad while he was at the "hospital". The toy is super for the car! And don't miss the volume button inside....'cuz he's VERY loud on the high setting! Overall, this is a great toy! I think my daughter just wore his right hand switch out.
Customer Review: Recommended Toy Summary: 5 Stars
I wouldn't have initially picked this toy, but I was in a store and I gave it to my son to play with while I shopped. I was surprised when he spent the entire time involved in this toy--he didn't lose interest in it and it seemed to me something that he could learn at the same time with. I put the toy down before we left and he wanted more! So, I ended up purchasing it and it is still a big hit. He doesn't spend hours with it or anything like that, but he does go back to it quite often and hasn't seem to gotten bored with it. There are 6 shapes on Tad's belly, each in a different color and when pressed, Tad tells you the shape and color. One of the shapes lights up until your baby presses it--and then baby gets a reward when he does--the shapes light up and a song is played. Also, there are lips on his face that gives a kiss when pressed. I also give him this toy when I am changing him to make this time more pleasurable (for him, and myself!!) This is a great toy to play with in the stroller or in the car or anywhere that you want your child to sit for an extended period of time without fussing. Overall, I think this is a great toy or gift for a baby. It is educational and a lot of fun. Keeps baby entertained and it's great when you find a toy with positive reinforcement.
Customer Review: Best Music In A Baby Toy. Summary: 4 Stars
We have purchased many musical toys for our 2 young children, and especially in the ones designed to be soothing crib toys we have often found the music to be loud, obnoxious, and sometimes out-of-tune. Not so with Baby Tad. If you place it on low volume, the six soft bedtime songs are very nicely done and very soothing to our 8-month-old baby as she settles down to go to sleep. It can be programmed at the press of a paw (do frogs have paws?) to play 6 minutes of lullabies. She is too little to push the buttons for the other activities, but it gives her something to grow into while she can still enjoy the music now. I only wish the "Daytime" song setting also allowed for continuouis play; it only plays 1 song at a time. Nonetheless, it is a very sweet toy. Our 2 1/2 year old loves it so I'm going to have to buy him one of his own! I didn't give higher marks for educational value because my 8-month-old is too little to use that feature, and by the time she can readily press the buttons that teach shapes and colors, she will probably have already learned these just as my toddler did. Still, a sweet toy and one of the nicer crib toys I've seen. be forewarned- Tad is BIG, much bigger than I expected! His features are a little alarming at first, but he's very likeable.
