Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Hug & Learn Baby Tad PlushCustomer Review: Known to be durable! Summary: 4 Stars
I never personally purchased this item, but my mother bought this for my nephew when he was born. He loved it, and now my daughter has inherited Baby Tad. He's now 4 1/2, my daughter's now 17-months, and Baby Tad is STILL GOING. My daughter mainly plays with Tad at nap time. My mom uses Tad as her companion to fall asleep, and I'm not sure she could take a nap at her house without him. (My mother keeps my daughter everyday.)
As for the educational value and all of that, I'm really not sure. My daughter doesn't use him for that, and there may be another toy that is cheaper that could have provided her the same companionship . . . but he has lasted through two kids already, and my mother has just now commented that he probably needs new batteries. So . . . he will last if nothing else!
Customer Review: Love this toy Summary: 5 Stars
I just wanted to let everyone know that this Christmas I bought 4 of these little Tads. They were great for kids just learning their colors, and children songs. I am a nanny, have been for 16 years now and I know what the kids can do and not do for their age groups.Right now I have three different families that I nanny for they are three diffenent homes ages 18 months and all boys. So they all got one for Christmas and I bought one for a gift, for a friend that just had a baby. So let me tell you one story that one of them called and said that, the toy wasn't working it was just repeating, "Hi I"M Baby Tad" over and over again. So i told her to take it back to Toys R US were i got them, now I spent $... on these toys I just hope they all continue to work. Thanks for a great toy and products LEAPFROG.
Customer Review: Maybe, maybe not Summary: 3 Stars
I love leapfrog toys but this one was very limited for my daughter. It basically teaches six shapes and plays music(It does have a volume control). The buttons are hard to push. It tends to pill. After a year ours stoppped working but that was o.k. because my daughter had long lost interest.
Your child may like it for cuddle value though. But my best advice would be to buy it early, when your baby is about three months old or less. Beware that if you use Tad to lull your baby to sleep you'll have to keep going into the room to restart him as he is on a six minute timer. When you hold the reset button down the voice goes through a timer- "One minute, two minutes, three minutes, etc.. to night-night." This always disturbed my daughter. Also the flashing lights were too stimulating for bed time.
Customer Review: Baby Tad a "lovable teacher" Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter received this gift for X-Mas when she was 3 mo. old. At first, I put it in the pack and play with her when she was playing in there. I would set the music mode and let it play for her (it plays lullabyes up to 8 min). Then as she started to sit up on her own we played with it together, pushing the shapes and listening to the songs that Tad sings. At about 10 months, I noticed her purposefully pushing the buttons that were lit up. So after about two months of watching her do this I thought it can't be a coincidence so I asked her to point out the individual shapes and she was able to do it. I never once taught her shapes and here she had learned it from Baby Tad! Now she is 2 and she doesn't play with it that often anymore. However, I keep it in the car and it amuses her.
Customer Review: Great for the kids, a bit annoying for parents. Summary: 4 Stars
My daughter got her "Baby Tad" when she was about 11 months old and it has lasted well for almost a year. Tad began misfiring on songs and turning on and off at random, but all it took was fresh batteries to get him back into shape. My daughter loves the songs and sings and dances along. She has also started some of the hand movements (Itsy, Bitsy Spider and Twinkle Star). She likes it so much it was one of the few toys we took on a two week European vacation recently. We haven't had any probelms with our curious toddler getting into the battieries (yet). The easy to operate buttons make it very easy to hear the same song 15 times in a row and it does get a little tiresome for me, but I'm learning to tune him out.The volume can get to be too much for quiet times.
