Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Alphabet Set - Styles May Vary

Customer Review: great buy!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was really looking for an alphabet set for my 14 month old that did not have those tiny magnets on the back (that always come off). I intended to put away the electronic part til she was bigger, but she loves using it.

Now at 15 months my daughter has figured out which way to put the letters in to make the sound ("M says mmm, m says mmm, every letter makes a sound, m says mmm"). If the letter is inserted incorrectly it makes a cute sound. Pushing the music note on the front plays the whole alphabet.

My only peeves are the volume switch is on the front (the loudest setting is LOUD) and some of the letters I don't agree with the sound that Leappad says they make... for example 'L' says "ill" whereas I would think it says "Lih". But then maybe that is the way they teach phonetics?

Well either way, friends that have seen ours on the fridge have run out to get one, so there is something to be said in that! A great way to teach the alphabet and I am really glad I bought this.

Customer Review: Word Whammer is a better deal
Summary: 5 Stars

Overall these products are wonderful but the Word Whammer Fridge Phonics that holds three letters at a time is a MUCH better deal (and you'll be able to use it alot longer!). You just put this toy on the fridge and put all of the letters on the fridge and let your kid have at it! My son is 3 1/2 now and we've had this about a year and he loves it.
Surprisingly, my 9 month old daughter also absolutely loves this item. I put it down at the bottom of the fridge with a few letters and she knocks it in the floor and starts pushing the buttons to get it to play music! She's now trying to figure out how to put the letters in it! This toy is one of the best investments you'll make but do get the Word Whammer instead of this single letter one. My son is really starting to put the letters together now to make simple words. This toy has been played with everyday, multiple times a day since I purchased it. BTW, the batteries last forever in it too. I haven't changed them yet! It's great!

Customer Review: My daughter knew her A,B,C's at 15 months
Summary: 5 Stars

I can not priase enough about this toy, nor can my hubby. My daughter whom just turned 2 on 9-11 got this as a present last year. We placed this in the fridge and she has played with it day in and day out. At 15 months old she was singing the A,B,C's. At 18 months she could tell you what the letters were in order. Now at 2 y/o she can find you a letter and tell you what the letter is. I try to "quiz" her and show her letters that are not in order, just pull random ones off and she does a great job telling me what letter it is! I am currently teaching her sign language and when I show her a signed letter, she goes to the fridge and pulls off the correct one. I also have the word whammer by leap. It is nice that all the letters are compatable with the fridge phonics and word whammer. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND this for all mothers and fathers to have. As i read in another review, they are not to bad to step on.
Good luck and may your little one be a lifetime of love, smiles and happiness.

Customer Review: This is the best toy under twenty dollars
Summary: 5 Stars

This toy is AWESOME! We Have 2 sets so we can spell more words. We recieved the 1st set when my daughter was 15 months and after a week she could sing A-G and a couple more weeks she had the next set of letters down and by after having it a month 1/2 she was able to say the whole alphabet song. Once she had that down she just had to learn letter recognition and now she is learning the sounds.
I recommend this toy to all my friends it also a great toy to have because it keeps your child occupied and in close range when you are in the kitchen, which helps dinner and dishes go faster.

We've now had this 1st set for over 2 1/2 years and is still going strong even on the original batteries! We've never ever had a problem with either set, we have even a handfull of times had ran some of the letters thru the dishwasher cycle and they still come out working fine. Our second set has the counting numerbs and alpahbet combined. This is the busiest toy in the house!

Customer Review: Great learning toy....OT reccommended too!
Summary: 5 Stars

My son recieved this magnet set from my parents as a Christmas gift last year. He LOVES it! I am an Occupational Therapist, and have tried very hard not to "educate" my son 24/7, as those who work with children might have a tendancy to do. We have purchased several products from the Leap Frog family, and we have been happy with all of them. He plays with the letters when we're in the kitchen cooking or unloading the dishwasher. He can identify at least 75-80% of the alphabet by himself, and he's only 2 1/2.He loves the alphabet song too. It's a little less grating than the classical "ABC" song. It is very appealing to kids too...big, chunky letters and buttons that are easy for little hands to manipulate, and it incorporates visual, auditory, and kinesthetic (gotta touch it to learn it)methods to promote learning! As a therapist and a mother, I highly reccommend the Leap Frog learning toys. They naturally make learning fun for children, with or without disabilities!
