Customer Review: Nobody else's says the wrong letter sounds?
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this product (as well as the Farm magnet set) for my 15-month-old granddaughter for Christmas and was devastated to find that a few of the letters elicited the wrong recording altogether! Also, very often, when removing and replacing the same letter rapidly, a wrong sound recording would play the second time for many different letters. I can't let her play with it at all, because I never know when it will teach her the wrong information! I tried replacing the batteries, but that wasn't the problem. Didn't bother replacing it, because I can't very well undo the whole set in the store and test each letter, which was the only way I discovered this.

I have to say, the farm toy works fine, although I'd prefer it to simply name the animals. I replaced the letters set with plain old alphabet magnets, but I am really disappointed in Leapfrog and probably will shy away from this brand in the future. All I can say is, test each letter carefully before you leave your little ones to learn that "E" says "Kkk" and is the letter "K"!

Customer Review: Hours of Refrigerator fun
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great toy for the budding two year old. After placing the magnetic letter into the frame a voice sings out the name of the letter and the various phonetic pronunciations of the letter. It's fun to sing along with the song and watch my daughter bop-up and down.

Pro- Fun music and best of all it has a button where you can select the loudness of the music.
- Small sized frame doesn't take up too much room on the fridge
- Magnets are strong enough to hold up pictures and paper drawings

Con
- The on/off loudness button is in the front, inviting small curious fingers to play with it and turn off or make the sound louder. In the future it would be better to have that button hidden in the back or on one of the sides
- I would love to be able to switch languages to either Spanish of French with the flick of a button, right now it's all in English.
- It's hard to spell with only one set of letters, maybe if you added 2 sets of vocals it would make the toy more versatile

Customer Review: Great help for learning to read ... plus it's just entertaining!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Fridge Phonics Magnetic Letter Set really does transform your refrigerator into a learning center! With 26 magnetic letters and a magic reader that recognizes which letter is placed inside, this interactive product inspires your child to develop language, exploration, creativity and motor skills. My oldest son when he first started learn how to read, went over to the refridgerator (on his own!) to hear the sounds of letters when he couldn't figure it out on his own. You can place one of the letters into the magnetic letter reader to hear a fun song that teaches the letter's name and sound. For example if you were to insert the A letter and push on it, it sings (it doesn't acutally say what I wrote in the apprenthesis): A say "A" (the long sound) and A say Ahh (short vowel sound), every letter makes a sound, A says A and Ah. Plus, you can press the music note button to hear the Alphabet Song! All my three children play with this almost everyday. It's also great entertainment for your child while Mom or Dad is cooking.

Customer Review: SUPER, but you need the lowercase expansion kit
Summary: 5 Stars

The Fridge Phonics Set is a musical and fun way to learn letter names and sounds. Our son gravitates towards it because of the music and easy manipulation/grasp of the letters. I like it because of the: 1:1 visual and auditory letter name and sound correspondence, raised letters for tracing and easy grip, and repetition for learning. My only concern with it is that the letters are in uppercase instead of lowercase. Ask any educator versed in early literacy, and they will tell you that knowing lowercase letters will get you a lot farther in reading than knowing uppercase letters. Fortunately, there is an expansion kit for this play set. Fridge Phonics Lowercase Letters Expansion Pack I just purchased it on-line and I will be exchanging the letters when it arrives. I'll update this review once we use it. Nonetheless, our son enjoys this play set and is starting to learn his letters using this and other toys.

Customer Review: Great Toy!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this toy so my 4-1/2 year old and 12 month old would have something to play with in the kitchen besides the contents of my cabinets. They both love it! The baby can push the buttons for the songs and the 4-1/2 year old puts letters together to spell words (ones that don't need more than one of the same letter)! The 4-1/2 year old already knew her phonics but I wanted a fun way to reinforce them and start the spelling skills. The musical unit has been droppped and thrown with no ill effects, and one letter has been thrown in the bathtub. The songs are cute and not too loud. Because there are so many letters (the whole alphabet), the baby always has something to play with and nobody is fighting over the pieces.

We love the Leapfrog products, BUT beware that almost all the toys ONLY teach capital letters. When the kids get to school you will find they want them to know their lowercase letters. So be sure to combine the great Leapfrog products with books or teaching of the lowercase letters too.
