Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Alphabet Set - Styles May Vary

Customer Review: Wonderful educational toy
Summary: 5 Stars

This toy is a wonderful and fun way to teach kids letters. My two-year-old loves playing with it. As soon as I showed him how it works (you can fit each letter into the base and then it sings a little song), he had a blast. The English alphabet is pretty complicated, with most letters making more than one sound, but the song addresses that (sometimes a little awkwardly).

Phonetically, for the letter E:
"EEE! EEE! EEE says EEE! Every letter makes a sound, EEE says EEE! And... EH!"

The sound quality is quite decent for such a tiny base, and the words are very easy to understand. There is a two-level volume control (a must for most parents), although the lowest volume is still relatively loud. There's also a little music note button that will play the alphabet song that the kids love to dance to.

If your little one is constantly underfoot while you're trying to do something in the kitchen, this is a great way to keep him nearby and occupied while teaching him letters.

Some reviews complained that the base would occasionally say the wrong letter. We didn't have that problem, but it seems to be just a manufacturing error that would definitely be eligible for return.

Customer Review: Great Learning Toy!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

My 3 year old loves this. He is speech delayed and this has helped him tremendously with pronouncing the letters and the sounds they make--although not perfectly, but I will take that considering he was barely saying any words 7 months ago. I'm not saying that this is the reason he is talking more now--he started school with includes speech therapy 7 months ago--but this toy has certainly helped. I love the toys that Leap Frog makes--they are so educational.

Anyway, he has learned all the letters in the alphabet and he loves the song this one plays. I just found out recently that they make this in lower case letters too--perfect. That will be on the Easter Bunny's list.:) Now I just wish Leap Frog would make the numbers too. And what I love most about this is that because it is magnetic, we do not seem to lose them unlike the wooden puzzle ones my 8 year old used when he was younger. We would lose them because they were all over the place.

P.S.
For those with stainless steel fridge, don't shy away from this because you can use your washer and/or dryer. We do a lot of learning while I do laundry. It makes our laundry room a fun learning room, plus I get laundry done at the same time. :)

Customer Review: One of the Best Toys We Own
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this after seeing it in friends' homes and also enjoying our LeapFrog Fridge DJ. I have to say that I think this toy (it's really more educational, but the kids play with it like crazy) is hands down one of the best investments we've made for our children's education.

It comes with the 26 uppercase letters and the letter reader. When you put each letter in the reader, it will tell the child what letter it is and what sound it makes (or sound(s) in the case of vowels). Then it sings a cute little song that my kids love to sing with and I believe also helps to cement the memory of each letter in their brain.

We have a 5 and 2 1/2 year old and they both fight over who gets to use it. Our 2 1/2 year old knows almost all her letters and sounds by sight and I give credit to this product.

Our 5-year-old is learning how to read and write and if she gets stuck on a letter, she will often go over to the fridge and select the letter and then listen to the sound it makes. It's amazing!

If you lose a letter from the set, as we have done, you can order a replacement from LeapFrog for $1 (which includes shipping).

You won't be disappointed with this product!

Customer Review: Great educational toy to help teach even young children letter names and sounds
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great toy! When I first brought it home, my daughter was almost a year old. At first, she enjoyed rearranging the letters on the refrigerator, banging them together, and listening to the ABC song. She quickly learned how to place the letters into the letter reader. Once you push the letter, you hear the song from The Letter Factory: "The A says Aaa, the A says Aaa, every letter makes a sound, the A says Aaa" etc. There are three volume settings - off, low and high. The low setting is loud enough for us. The magnet holding the letter reader is quite strong - not so strong that a small child couldn't pull it off, but it doesn't get knocked off accidentally. We also play with these letters on the floor (without the letter reader) talking about the different letters/colors and what sound each letter makes. I like the fact that this toy is multi-sensory, which is thought to help solidify memory. We have several other toys (including Melissa & Doug Upper & Lower Case Alphabet) and books about letters, which I think, along with this magnetic set, have contributed to my daughter learning the alphabet by 18 months.

Customer Review: Best thing I ever bought
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this about 2 years ago for our then 2 year old. She learned her letters so fast, it was amazing. We had the traditional letter magnets but they always ended up under the stove or fridge. These are too big to fit under the fridge which is great. Also, just an idea that I came up with. Our daughter now 4 doesn't like to sit and eat her dinner at the table with the rest of us, so we play surprise letter. She takes a bite of food and then I turn my back away from the fridge and tell her to find a letter, she gets just about all of them right, and then goes and takes another bite. It keeps her attention off actually eating and she loves playing it. The clarity on this is amazing. The letters all sound the way they should. When you pushed the letter in it says "C ...C says "Ca" C says "Ca" Every letter makes a sound C says Ca. It is a really great buy. I love leapfrog things.

We just bought the farm animals for our 1 year old for Christmas, hope it works as great as the letters. Oh and one more thing I just find a letter magnet set that now includes numbers so you might want to look for that one before buying this one. Wish I did.
