Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal SetCustomer Review: Not for small children who eat toys Summary: 2 Stars
Would have given this a 4-star rating, except we noticed yesterday that the paint is chipping off of every piece that our child has eaten over the last 2 days. Not that this toy is for eating, but if it's being sold to 1 year-old children, expect it to go in the mouth. We're hoping the paint is non-toxic.
That said, if your child isn't an in-the-mouth-goes-everything kind of kid, it's a lot of fun for them to mix and match animals. What's quite nice is that there's no "wrong" answer; even animals that don't belong together teach a lesson of mix-and-match, and provide appropriate animal sounds. Downside for small hands is that the magnets are relatively strong, and fit well inside the "barn doors," which means getting them out if your a little person isn't so easy.
So, would have been better if not edible, if easier to use for small hands. For older todlers and children, would certainly recommend.
Customer Review: Lots of fun for toddlers while learning about animals Summary: 5 Stars
My 1 year old son received this for his birthday & he loves it! My son loves magnets & this is perfect for one year olds and older. It's easy for him to put the pieces in & push the buttons to make animal sounds. We like the songs it sings & it tells you it's silly when you make a match of two different animals (for example a pig/duck) while playing the sounds of those animals. The music is fun as is with all the Leapfrog toys. This is a great way to learn animal sounds. It includes pieces for a duck, pig, sheep, cow & horse. This is very durable, we found a piece in our dishwasher (toddlers are in love with dishwashers for some reason) & it still worked. My only concern is that the base is heavy & my son always pulls it off the refrigerator. The pieces are big enough to not pose a choking hazard. My son always has the pieces in his mouth & carries them around the house. Overall, we love this set & have lots of fun.
Customer Review: Gave it as a gift, and it has been loved! Summary: 4 Stars
We have several LeapFrog prducts, so we knew they would make great gifts for friends. When this went on sale here, I knew it would be a perfect Christmas present for a friend's child.
What I like about it: It doesn't have a million magnets (like the alphabet ones). It incorpoates both matching and animal sounds into one toy. The main part secures to the fridge with a strong magnet. It plays a silly song when you put together two wrong animal parts. When we got it, the child we gave it to was 16 or 17 months old; now she's two, and she is still loving it. It's a fun toy for friends to play with when they come over. It also sings a song and rewards the child when they make a match, which is good too.
I think almost every child loves animals and farms, which makes this the perfect toy. I would recommend it for your child or for a gift. It's a great product all around. Seriously love it!
Customer Review: Love it love it love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my son for Christmas 2004, when he was 20 mo. old. As soon as he opened it and saw the different animals, he was wanting to play with it! He loves the easy to hold shapes, and likes to match the animals halves - and loves to mismatch them!
For myself, I like the volume control :) All kidding aside, it's an important thing to have! It has a switch with "off" "low" and "high" positions. I also like that each animal is a different color, helping the little ones match them more easily.
It's also nice that inside the fridge isn't the most interesting thing in the kitchen anymore! Instead of begging me to open the fridge so he can peek around, he plays with his fridge toys.
In addition to the Farm set, we also got the Alphabet set, which is also great. (and with volume controls!) Buy this one - buy the alphabet one! You won't be disappointed with either!
Customer Review: Love, love, love this toy Summary: 5 Stars
This is a toy that will captivate babies AND toddlers. It's not a toy that will collect dust at the bottom of your toy chest after a few weeks or after your child "grows out of it." My son played with it at 10 months by pressing the buttons. As he got older, he learned to put the animal halves on the board and then he learned to match them up correctly.
I only have 2 minor complaints. First, the packaging says you can stick all the animal pieces to the back of the board for storage. It simply doesn't work. So be prepared to lose half a pig or cow or both. Also, my son spilled his sippy cup on the Fridge Farm and it quit working. That may be for every electronic toy though.
My son has asked Gramma for a new Fridge Farm for Christmas. Despite any minor flaws, it is an all-around GREAT toy and we are anxious to have it in our house again.
