Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal SetCustomer Review: Great purchase for home/gift Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my 1 year-old daughter for her 1st b-day and she loves it (my 2.5 year-old likes playing with it too)! I like the volume control (3 settings: off, low, and high), and the little songs make everyone dance. I keep it on the fridge and roll her high chair next to it so she can play with it while I get meals ready--it works great. She seems to like the several "pieces" and enjoys sticking and un-sticking them to the fridge. The larger piece (the farm house) has heavy-duty magnets, so it takes a lot of umph to get it to release--which I like. It stays put for the most part.
The toy rewards with a song and encouraging words, teaches animal facts (my older girl is benefiting from that) & colors, encourages fine motor skills (fitting 2 simple pieces in the right place), teaches part-to-whole relationships (you match up the 2 halves of the animals), and is muscial as well! I have listened to this toy over and over through 5+ months now, and I really can't say I'm tired of hearing the toy do its thing!
I would definately recommend this for a perfect gift for a 1 yr old.
Customer Review: not quite interested Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased this toy for my sons 1st birthday, he played with it in the store, pushing the buttons (he loves pushing buttons). I thought it would be a great toy to keep him occupied while i get things done in the kitchen. He's 15 months now, and still not interested in playing with it. The magnets are scattered around the house, becuase he doesnt use them with the barn, he just pulls them off the fride and carries them around. Im not sure if hes just not ready for it yet, or what, but im dissappointed. Im sure he'll get have me fun with it in the future, but for now Im tired of picking up the heads and tail of animals around the house.
Personally, I've become a fan of the toys that don't require peices, or clean up for that matter. If you're looking for a good toy to occupy your kids, try the fisherprice Learning House. I bought this for my son at 6 months, and he still loves it, and best of all there is no cleaning up after it. Its a little more expensive than most toys Ive bought him, but its well worth it. He's still finding new things he can do with it.
Customer Review: My child thinks this is great! Summary: 5 Stars
We received this as a birthday present, and for the past 6 months it has been a source of entertainment for my daughter when I am cooking or cleaning in the kitchen. She enjoys pressing the Leap Frog guy at the top and listening and dancing to the music like "The Farmer in the Dell" and "She'll be Comin' 'Round the Mountain."
As for the animal magnets, until recently they were on the floor more often than not, and hubby and I would accidentally kick them under the stove or radiator (a gripe with most small toys, I'd assume). Now our daughter actually knows to put them on to create animals. When she makes a match, it cheers her on and if she presses the animal a second time it says, "Did you know..." and gives a fact about that animal. I personally enjoy mis-matching the animals so I can hear the voice say "A Pig Cow? That's silly!"
I have already purchased this product for several friends, and from what they tell me, their kids love it too. I highly recommend this to anyone in desperate need of kitchen-entertainment for their child.
Customer Review: great toy broke after 1month and no help from company Summary: 3 Stars
My daughter got this for her first birthday in August. It is a great idea as she could play with it while I was working in the kitchen. However, after only a month, three of the five back sides of the animals would no longer activate the music and phrases(now, four months later only one works). I called Leap Frog in October and notated whom I spoke with. I was told that it sounded like a few of the parts were defective and that since this was a new toy, could I call back in about six weeks to see if they had replacement parts for it yet? And I am supposed to explain that to my 14 month old child! I had a defective Fisher Price toy and contacted their customer service department and received a voucher for the purchase of a toy of equal value. As much as my daughter loves this toy, I am very hesitant to buy her any other Leap Frog products because they may just be a waste of my money weeks later. If Leap Frog can't afford to send me a new $16.00 product, they may not be in business for much longer...
Customer Review: A winner for one year olds! Summary: 4 Stars
My daughter received this as a gift when she was 12.5 months old and it instantly became a favorite toy. She loves hitting the "Tad" button at the top of the farm and dancing along to the music (he plays several twangy songs) and she delights in putting the animals into the farm and telling me "moo cow!"
My only complaint is that after about five months of near constant use, some of the magnets stopped interacting with the base unit. Customer service said that wiping down the magnets with rubbing alcohol would solve the problem, but that doesn't seem to have worked. Oh well--my daughter still adores this toy and drags it all over the house with her. I've given it as gifts to several one year olds and they love it just as much as my daughter does!
When my little girl isn't dragging it with her, we keep it on our dishwasher and the magnets on the farm (the base unit) are strong enough that it stays on our dishwasher even when we open the door to load in dishes.
