Customer Review: My Son Loves This Toy

I bought this for my 13 month old son 2 weeks ago. He absolutely loves this toy! I love it too: 1) because he likes it and 2) it has an off button :)
The part the my son loves the most is probably the music. If you press the yellow chick at the top of the barn, it plays music. It has 4 or 5 different songs that he just laughs and laughs at. It also plays music if he matches or if he doesn't match the animals. Something else that i really liked about this toy is that it automatically shuts off after a minute or two if your child isn't playing with it.
It also gives informative facts about the animals when you press the different pieces. For example: "Did you know that milk comes from cows?". My 13 month old may not know what it is talking about now, but I like that this toy has the possibility to grow with him.
The toy is magnetic, but not too strong that he can't pull the pieces off the fridge. It is also pretty durable. My son has slammed it on the floor a few times already, and I haven't heard any piece rattling around inside of the toy or anything like that.
If your child likes to play with the magnets on the refrigerator...then this is a great toy for them!

I'm a single parent and doing anything in the kitchen is a major obstacle when my 2 year old son wants to unload the cabinets, slam the doors, run around in the living room, bother the dog etc. Since he has recieved this for his birthday I have not had one problem working freely in the kitchen. I mean I was able to make dinner and wash the dishes (which took about 45 minutes) without hearing one peep from him. He was in the same room as me, so I was completely worry free in the kitchen WHICH IS RARE!!! IT'S GREAT! He wants to stay in the kitchen and play with it, so I don't have to worry about him running a muck outside the kitchen area or bothering the dog. I do keep an eye to make sure he's not throwing the pieces in the garbage, but it's better then having to check on him every other second outside of the kitchen area. It has two volumes which he knows how to use. This is a fantastic toy and I hope they come out with more. BUT A WARNING TO PARENTS: The magnets are super strong and cling hard to anything metallic. If your child throws them etc they can end up stuck under the fridge, stove or on the sides. If you think you've lost one just look in those places first. I was really excited by this toy b/c my 15 month old loves to play with magnets on the fridge. I thought it would be great to get this toy that could combine learning and playing since she's doing it already on the fridge. However, there is a song that comes on when you make a correct match that really scares my daughter for some reason. She is perfectly happy playing with the toy up until she makes a match and that song comes on. It makes her cry all of a sudden (and not just a little cry)!
So as a result, we've had to keep the animal magnets separate from the barn base so that the song won't come on. But that pretty much defeats the purpose. The animals are on the fridge now but she doesn't really seem to like them that much. She will just take them off and throw them on the ground. It's a pain to clean up. But she likes the base b/c she likes the music. Hopefully she will play with it eventually. I'm sure every baby will be different and might not be scared like my daughter.
I give this toy 4 stars for durability b/c of the little parts that have potential of getting lost. I can see the education value being high if it was actually being played with the correct way.

You just can't beat a LeapFrog product. Fun and educational.
If your child is too young to completely grasp the matching, at the very least he is gaining eye hand coordination placing the puzzle pieces into their spots.
My daughter has been playing with the Fridge phonics and the Farm since before she could walk. Her reward for bellying up to the fridge while mommy cooked was the wonderful sounds and songs both products play when pieces are placed in and buttons are pushed. She loved this.
Normally I give her things no sooner than 6 months before the recommended age in order to assure there working order when she is really able to get the most out of a toy or product. For this and the Fridge Phonics I started before 1 year old, and as a result, she was able to say her ABC's as soon as she spoke. I don't know of another kid around me who would completely and correctly do the alphabet that early.
It entertained her for long periods and kept her out from under foot while I was in the kitchen. I always recommend this for people who are not parents and are searching for a gift for young ones. Kid tested - Mom approved!!

We got this for my son several months ago, and he loves it!! We got it for his first birthday, at first he wasn't too into it, but a few weeks later and every day he was playing with it.
What I love about this toy: Like I mentioned, my son plays with it every day, a few times a day at least, and we still have the original batteries in it. It is pretty durable, my son sometimes gets frustrated, and this is one of the easiest things on his level in the kitchen, so he will go to it and if I don't catch him knock it off the fridge. It's banged on the floor a couple of times and the pieces have been thrown all over and they're both in perfect shape. My son loves the songs!! He also has learned about matching, but even funnier, he loves the song that they play when you have an incorrect match!! He will purposely come up with incorrect matches to dance to that song.
I would definitely get this toy as a gift for someone or recommend it. It's reasonably priced, easy to carry along with you in the car or to a friends house (although I wish it came with a storage case to keep all the magnets) and it entertains!!
