Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal SetCustomer Review: Low Price + Excellent Toy = Must Have! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this toy for my twins on their first birthday. I was quite surprised at how much I love this toy! The base is a barn in which you can put two of any ten animal halves. The object is to complete the simple 2 piece puzzle by making a match (the head and bottom of a cow) or a mismatch (the head of the sheep and the bottom of the horse). In my opinion, the toy has three different play zones.
1. Push "Farmer Tad" to hear music. This is great for the younger kids who cannot figure out how to put the pieces back into the barn. My daughters first dance moves were to these songs.
2. Play with match/mismatch of animals on the fridge. Again this is great for those who haven't mastered puzzling. They don't have to figure out how to put them into the barn, my daughters first played with the animal pieces on the fridge for months, making matches/mismatches and saying their animal sounds.
3. Making Match/Mismatch in the Barn (simple puzzle). The mismatch is my favorite part of the toy. I love the silliness of the song for not making a match and not just saying they were wrong. The toy also gives a song and praise for making a match. The twins finally figured out to put the head in front and the bottom in back when they were around 14 months old. Now they love to make combinations and hear the songs and animal sounds.
Overall it is a safe, imaginative and inexpensive toy that I highly recommend.
Customer Review: Longlasting Favorite for My Two Kids! Summary: 5 Stars
This toy has been on our fridge for over five years!
When the child makes a match, whether it is real (both the halves of the same animal) or silly (front of one animal and back of another), he/she is rewarded with a song. The song is quite catchy; we even sing it on long car trips..."You put the pig in front and the cow behind...put them together and what do you find? A cow-pig! That's silly!" The frog button at the top plays children's standards (no singing), such as Skip to My Lou, She'll be Coming 'Round the Mountain When She Comes, etc.
My son, now almost six, received this gift when he was born and we broke it out of its packaging when he was approximately 10 months. My daughter, now 19-months-old, just "discovered" the fridge farm and is semi-obsessed. She loves to make a match and seems to understand that putting the "pink pig" in front and "orange horse" in back will net her a silly song. Every time she makes a mismatch, she dances around and joins in when the lady sings, "That's silly!" As a side note, my son enjoys helping his little sister make correct matches, as well as silly matches, with this toy.
I have given this toy numerous times for 1-year-old birthday children and always hear back from the parents that it is a favorite. For the price, you can't go wrong.
Customer Review: Definitely top 5 best toys Summary: 5 Stars
Of all the millions of toys my kids have received and played with, this is by far one of the best, no question about it. I find Leapfrog stuff generally either knocks it out of the park or it's not good at all. This is one of theirs that knocks it out (like the new Tag system, which is incredible).
This thing has entertained my now 4.5 yr old since she was a baby and is still being used by her (occasionally as she walks past the fridge) as well as our 2 yr old. who loves it.
SOUND quality, something that is rarely paid attention to these days and very impt imo, for kids toys, is top notch. VOLUME CONTROL, another essential, sometimes overlooked is present. More importantly, it has OFF, LOW and HIGH.
Toy is DURABLE. This thing has been thrown down, knocked down, stepped on
and most likley bitten at least a few times. Still works perfectly.
BATTERY LIFE is great, no problems there.
The songs and feedback from the toy are great and different enough to keep the kids interested.
Just a great, great toy. Award winner I believe. Pls note you can often find things cheaper directly from the Leapfrog website (not to take anything away from Amazon, which I love...just sayin')
Customer Review: Excellent Toy! Summary: 5 Stars
We are huge fans of Leap Frog toys at our house. We bought this toy for our daughter's 1st b-day. She dances to the music and likes playing with the pieces. She just turned 1 on 9/28 so she is a little young yet when it comes to matching the animals and placing them in the barn. She can get 1 piece in but that is it. She still has a great time with it. We love the magnets on it, they seem to be strong enough so it doesn't slide down the fridge. I am able to clean up the kitchen while she plays, which is a blessing in it's self. The songs are cute and we are not worried about her choking on any of the pieces since they are not too small. Also, the toy still gives positive feedback to the kids even if the animals are not matched correctly. Instead of saying, "oops try again", like some other toys. Our 8 yr. old daughter secretly enjoys playing with it as well. I think she just likes mismatching the animals to hear what it will be called. (pig cow, sheep duck, etc.)
This toy is great for 1 yr, olds but most likely they won't be able to match them until about 18 mo. or older. In my opinion, practice makes perfect and the younger kids will still enjoy it. I highly recommend this toy! Great job Leap Frog and Amazon. (Amazon does an awesome job with timely shipping)
Customer Review: Cute, Fun, My Kids Love It! Summary: 5 Stars
My 2-year old received this as a gift for her birthday. She loves it. At first, her favorite part was just pressing the "Farmer Leap" button so that she could dance to the music, but then she realized that it was a "puzzle" and started putting animal pieces in. I thought it would be great because even if she got the wrong animals put together, it would still sing a "silly" song for her. But to my surprise, she only likes to put the animals together the correct way. My 4-year old, however, thinks its funny to put the animals together the incorrect way. They both love it, and the 4-year old enjoys listening to the animal facts - even though she knew most of them already. They also like to carry it around like it's a portable radio, and listen to the music and dance.
For those parents that might be concerned as I was, about the strength of the magnets holding up the weight of this toy on the fridge - don't worry! It really sticks well! I thought it would be falling off constantly, but unless the kids are REALLY yanking/pushing/pulling on it, it stays put. Yet, the handle makes it easy enough for them to remove by themselves if they want to take it elsewhere. Also, it has two levels of volume.
Our family loves this toy!
