Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Fridge DJ Magnetic Learning Radio

Customer Review: Enjoyable, durable and worth the money!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this radio as a last minute Christmas toy for my son who was 15 months old at the time. It was love at first sight. It was not only the hit of the day but the most enjoyable (for him) toy that I have ever gotten him to date. He carried it around with him most of the time rather than leaving it on the refrigerator but whatever works for him works for me. He loved most of the songs and played them over and over again. He knows all the songs front to back and it took him no time to learn which "station" to turn it to and how many times he needed to push the music button to get to the song he wanted. We also live on a second floor apartment and going though his throwing phase he tossed it of the balcony several times and almost 3 years later it is still going strong. Music, structure and magnet rise. While he no longer plays with it constantly I can tell you that he, 3 years later, still turns it on at least one a day. Anything that costs 20 bucks and lasts more than 6 months (entertainment wise) is well worth the money. I have read comments about the sound quality and loudness of the radio so I thought I would comment on it. The sound quality could be a little sharper but my son was able to learn the sons fine so no complaints from me. As for the loudness, I can hear it from any room in the house, any louder and it might be annoying rather than enjoyable. It would be a top choice for a gift for a child between the aged of 1 and 3.

Customer Review: Wonderful! Leapfrog does it again...
Summary: 5 Stars

We already have 2 fridge toys by this company (the animal matching one and the uppercase letter one) and I was so impressed that I sprung for the DJ toy. Our 12 month old loves hanging out in the kitchen but the above 2 toys were a bit beyond her and I wanted something that she could operate easily that would keep her amused. She's taken to carrying it around the house and dancing to the music when the feeling strikes her. Her 3 yr old sister and her have had a few fights over the toy as the educational information appeals to the older child.

Pros:
+ Numerous songs - not just one annoying one, but 3 difference 'stations' with multiple songs
+ Educational - I love that it teaches upper AND lower case with graphics
+ Graphics: although simple (looks like a scoreboard) the graphics dance around to the music and keep their interest
+ Easy to operate for the baby (one button to press)
+ Music - not bad, kinda jazzy; they slowed down the alphabet song which is great for character recognition
+ Can use it on the fridge or carry it around

Cons:
+ Music sounds kinda tinny (but for $19.99...what do you expect?)
+ My 12 month old tried to use it to help her stand on the fridge but the magnets weren't strong enough and she slid down with the toy
+ Kinda heavy for it's size - just fell on my 3 yr old's foot. Lots of complaining

I highly recommend it!

Customer Review: Great for a toddler!
Summary: 5 Stars

My 15 month old got this for Christmas. We keep it on the refrigerator and she listens and dances to it often. It keeps her occupied while I make dinner/lunch or clean up. She loves the songs and can 'flip through them' to get to her favorite. There are three 'buttons'. One to turn the toy on/off and select volume, one to select the mode, and one to select a song within the mode. The 3 modes are letters, numbers and music and are selected with a dial like switch. The letter mode has 4 songs...3 of which are the alphabet song. The first time you press the button, you get the alphabet song with uppercase letters being displayed on the LED screen, the second time, you get the lower case letters along with the song, the third time you get uppercase letters being displayed and the alphabet song plays with only the melody (no words). The fourth song is 'Annie OOh'. The number mode has 3 number songs and the Music mode has 5 songs...Old MacDonald, Take me out to the Ball Game, Twinkle Twinkle, Itsy Bitsy SPider and Pop Goes the Weasel (none with words). To change songs, there is simply a push button that is easily mastered by any child. The LED display is somewhat entertaining. My daughter has not yet mastered the dial to change modes, but I am sure she will soon. This also has 2 voume settings which is a plus. I highly recommend this, especially for any toddler/baby that seems to like music.

Customer Review: Love Love Love!
Summary: 5 Stars

It wasn't until my sister (a mother of a 10 month old boy) asked me what my son (now three) liked to play with when he was her sons age. I had to think for a second and then remembered the fridge DJ! It's still on the fridge and he still plays with it. Most importantly though, when he was younger (9 months to 2 years old), he would play with it for a good 30-60 minutes which allowed me to cook, clean, or whatever I had to do in the kitchen and I would dance around the kitchen while I did it. It has three "stations" alphabet, numbers and music. The tunes are really catchy and he was counting and reciting his alphabet at an early age. Also there is a small screen in the middle which shows the numbers and letters so they get a visual in addition to the audio. Very sturdy, he beat it up and it still works great, he even took it in the sandbox once (unbeknownst to me)and even though there was sand in the seams, it didn't affect how it played. Needless to say, I ordered three this Christmas for my sister and two other friends with babies. I think this is my first review ever....so obviously, I highly recommend it.

Customer Review: does not stay on the fridge!
Summary: 2 Stars

I loved the idea of having something on the fridge to occupy my little one when I'm in the kitchen. He loves to stay in the kitchen and very interested in things on the fridge. However, this toy did NOT stay on the fridge so it killed the purpose. It seems that the magnets are not strong enough to carry its weight. In addition, my son likes to interact with toys. This one did not offer much because there is only one button that activates the music which makes it pretty boring for my son. The lights are fun to watch because they light up according to music, which I liked. But again, there is not much to engage little ones except for sitting in front of it and watching how lights changes to the music. My son is 11 month-old. For older boys it might be different. I would recommend visiting a store nearby and let your baby (and yourself) play with it to see if she/he would be interested in it. I returned it...
