Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog® Explorer Smart GlobeCustomer Review: It's a great thought... Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this globe for my son this past Christmas. My son is Autistic and is VERY facinated with anything that has to do with geography. We bought him a regular globe and he loved it so much I thought this one would be perfect. The pen is very tempormental. sometimes when playing the game it doesn't recagnize the correct answer when touching it. Also sometimes it just either dosesn't recognize the pen touching anything or goes haywire. I am also dissapointed that the batteries don't last very long. We put new batteries in it Christmas Eve and come mid Christmas afternoon it said to replace the batteries. I love the concept and my sone likes it, but since it's so hard to use and doesn't hold power too long, I wouldn't buy it. It is now on the Top shelf of his closet and he is back to the old plain globe we bought at the office store for 10 bucks!
Customer Review: Great Fun, Educational Toy for the Entire Family Summary: 5 Stars
I am a mother of twelve children. My husband and I first sawthe LeapFrog Globe at[a store]. I guess we played the game for a full hour before purchasing it and bringing it home to our brood. Our children were just as excited as we were. The kids stayed on it for three hours! This is an amazing toy that gives so much information about states, countries, continents and oceans that its hard to put down. After dinner we break off into groups and compete against each other. The children have become very knowledgeable about geography and we often take it when we visit family to share our knowledge. ... . The "Talking Globe" is the tool to keep your children abreast of our changing world and its different peoples. Thanks for such an educational and fun toy. As for the durability: My 15 month old bit the pen! ... .
Customer Review: great concept, poor quality and execution Summary: 2 Stars
We bought this brand new for our 4 year old, who is fascinated with maps. It's great for continents, larger countries and states. . .but just try to pinpoint Rhode Island with that pen and you will be told " Two states have been chosen. If you want Rhode Island, choose the red arrow, if you want Connecticut, choose the blue arrow" or some similar message. Well, to a child trying to learn the names of the states and countries, that is not terribly helpful - if he knew what he wanted, he wouldn't be asking the state's name to begin with. Oh, and good luck in Eastern Europe!
If I were the only one with such problems, I would return it for another and give it another try, but since this there are so many problems. . .I think I'll return it before my 90 days is up in favor of something more reliable.
Customer Review: Fun with geography! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this product for my 7 yr old daughter because I know in school these days geography is low on the priority list even though the world is more connected than ever. She played with it all day yesterday and even the adults got involved and were surprised about the gaps in their recollection of where countries and cities were! By the evening my daughter had a sound understanding of where every continent and every ocean was. It took her only a few hours of playing so imagine what she can learn in a few days playing with this globe. Only downside I see is that occaisionally the electronic pen stops working and you have to reboot, the game. Also your eyes need to be pretty good especially as much of the type is typical of a globe map, very small and bunched together. All in all it is a great learning toy.
Customer Review: Learning Made Fun! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased a Leapfrog SmartGlobe for my 3 1/2-yr-old grandson for Christmas. He is a bright little guy who loves to learn and had already learned most of the states and their capitals. He loved the globe, as did the other grandkids! My daughter told me in January that the globe was his favorite toy and he would sit and play with it for hours! So I had another grandson turning 5 in February who also loves this sort of thing...maps, moon & stars, etc....so I ordered one for him for his birthday. My daughter-in-law assures me that he loves his and is learning about other countries. He has a gift for music and especially likes the 'music' feature on the globe. I would recommend this for any child who likes to learn, no matter the age. They are never too young to learn, and to know that learning can be fun!
