Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Alphabet PalŪ Caterpillar (Colors May Vary)

Customer Review: Fun But Gets Limited Attention
Summary: 4 Stars

My daughter just turned 1, and although she likes this toy she doesn't spend as much time with it as with other toys. The buttons on this toy play the same songs as on the Discovery Ball, but I love that these buttons are so much easier to press. They may be too easy though, cause my daughter loves rolling the toy around on the floor, which causes it to make constant sounds. The volume control is nice, and my daughter only needs to lightly pull on the string for it to light up and sing the ABCs. The picture with this listing is not the way our toy looks. Ours is much cuter, with red, yellow, green and blue feet and a purple body. I think my daughter will pay more attention to this toy as she grows.

Customer Review: Cute but just not an attention grabber
Summary: 2 Stars

My youngest son received the alphabet pal for his 1st birthday in April and hasn't touched it since. It just doesn't hold his attention. He is too young to actually learn the alphabet and colors, so the whole concept is just lost on him. He would rather try to throw it around than play with it. My 3 year old son tried it and because he already knows the alphabet and colors he wasn't interested in the teaching aspect. The songs peak his interest for about 5 minutes and then all he does is push the legs over and over to see how much noise he can make. Educational toys are okay but they lack the "attention grabber" that actually makes them fun too. Not worth the money.

Customer Review: Can you recycle all this plastic?
Summary: 1 Stars

This toy was given as a gift from a well-meaning grandmother, if I would have known how dangerous and annoying it was, I would have taken it back for a refund. My two 18 month olds hardly play with it but love to turn it on and leave it, and does not hold their attention very long. It's considerably heavy, so its dangerous when one of my twins drops it on themself or the other. It's also killer on the feet with all 26 of it's ackward feet/buttons if you should happen to step on it, which i'm sure many parents do. Lastly, that godawful song that repeats over and over, and the "Thanks for learning with leapbug bye bye" I can hear in the other room with the door shut!

Customer Review: Never played with
Summary: 2 Stars

My son didn't have much interest in this when he was one up until now. He is now 4 and is interested in learning his letters but could care less about this toy. I have taken it to my classroom, as I am a Kindergarten teacher, to aide my students in learning their letters. They did play with it because it was so much more fun than worksheets. I think at home my son found cooler things to play with. Also, I discovered that all the buttons worked until you got to W. It would not say the letter, it would just jump to the ABC song. Needless to say, it has been donated to someone else. Leapfrog continues to make great products but failed with this one.

Customer Review: Not all it's cracked up to be.
Summary: 3 Stars

My daughter (4) recieved this as a gift a couple years ago. All though I don't particuarly dislike this toy, it's really only here for entertainment. She never learned anything from it, but she did learn from her Leap Pad. My baby plays w/ it now, too. It's mainly good for rolling or pulling on the floor and making noise. Not bad for a pull toy, not good for educational. It was recalled once for the cord being a strangulation hazard. I have not had any problems with it, but if it hit the ground hard I could see those feet breaking off easily, and they're just the right size to be swallowed. I would recommend the V-tech pull phone instead.
