Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Alphabet PalŪ Caterpillar (Colors May Vary)Customer Review: Neither of my kids ever played with this toy Summary: 1 Stars
It looks like such a great toy, but neither one of my kids ever gave it any time at all. My oldest got it as a gift when she was about 20 months old. She was at a perfect age for it, as she had just learned her colors, and was starting to learn her alphabet. She loved to sing, too. I thought this would be a perfect combination of all of her current and emerging interests. But, she just never got in to it, at all. Ok, so not every toy clicks with every kid. We put it away after a few months. Brought it out again for my 2nd child when she was about a year old, same reaction. Younger child is now 2.5 years old, and I don't think she's ever played with it, beyond pretending it was a sick caterpillar that needed to go see a doctor. That's it. We never had any problems with it, durability-wise, although maybe that's because it didn't really get played with much. We also have the Counting Pal caterpillar, and my review for that would be pretty much identical to this one - a dud.
Customer Review: Leapfrog Makes Learning Fun Summary: 4 Stars
"Hi! I'm Alphabug!" I must've heard that line a hundred times when we received this toy as a gift. With bright primary colors and a contagious giggle, this bug may "bug" some parents but will entertain your child. Pull the string and it sings a catchy version of the Alphabet song. Press a foot and it teaches the letters of the alphabet. Switch the activity dial and each foot corresponds to the sound a letter makes. Switch again and the bug shouts out Yellow, Red, Blue, or Green. My favorite part: a volume control (HOORAY!) and an automatic shut-off. If the bug hasn't moved in 30 seconds, it will play a short goodbye song and turn itself off to conserve the batteries. Of course, my daughter discovered this and nudges the bug so it will start singing again. No additional pieces to lose, no poorly constructed parts to detach or break. Alphabug has lasted through two children and is months away from meeting a third playmate.
Customer Review: Fun, Educational, and has Morals?? *lol* Summary: 5 Stars
This toy was an awesome buy for our children. Our daughter was 3 when we bought it and she absolutely loves it to this day. We have seen an improvement in her phonics skills since playing with Alphabet Pal and we also value it's entertainment ability. Now that our 5mo old son is sitting up, he enjoys pushing the feet to hear the musical selections. I have no doubt in my mind that he will enjoy pulling it around once he can walk. Another great thing we could is that you cannot put together phonic sounds to create curse words. Like pushing the "F" and then "K" or the "A" then "S" or "Z". Alphabet Pal will sound out the first letter then give a quick giggle if the second letter pushed would sound out a curse word!! I tell ya, that sold us on this toy right there. I went out and bought 4 more for my nieces and nephews to have. WE LOVE IT!!
Customer Review: My Daughter Loves This Toy!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my 15 month-old daughter's absolute favorite toy. She plays with it constantly and loves to pull it around by the string. We went out of town recently and she wouldn't get into the car without it. Sometimes it can be annoying to Mom and Dad but when we get tired of the alphabet setting we just switch it to colors or songs. My only real complaints are from an adult perspective. The toy signs-off after it hasn't been played with for about 60 seconds and says "Thanks for learning with Leapfrog, buh-bye." This unnecessary and is only there to plant brand recognition in your child. My only other complaint is that it is a little loud even on the "low" volume setting but after a while you learn to tune it out. Other than these 2 things there is nothing bad about this toy. My daughter's happiness is more important than my irritation. It is definitely worth purchasing for a 1-3 year-old.
Customer Review: Leap Frog fail Summary: 3 Stars
We have the purple version, which is great because my wife hates pink. I would really like to see some lights on this toy, and the national anthem. My 4 month old loves touching the various legs, which are within her reach, but some lights would really make this toy attractive to her. I like the fact that it has 26 songs, but I would really like to see it have the national anthem. I really like the phonetic section doesn't allow you to press F and C, it avoids any awkwardness around the relatives. I know this means separate programing for all the various countries, but it would allow Leap Frog to have the national anthem of that country and that countries kids songs. I really like the phonetic section doesn't allow you to press F and C, it avoids any awkwardness around the relatives. Right now the pull cord is a choking hazard, but later on it's going to be too short for her to pull or drag.
