Toys and Games Reviews of LeapFrog Alphabet PalŪ Caterpillar (Colors May Vary)Customer Review: Fantastic toy and educational too! Summary: 5 Stars
My son got this toy when he was a few months old. We got it used, so maybe that's why we never had the volume problems other reviewers mention, even though we have changed the battery a couple times and the volume doesn't get any louder. It can play either the alphabet, letter sounds, colors, or music. We've gotten some benefit from the letter names--as my son has been learning his alphabet, he's used this toy sometimes to listen and repeat.
By far, though, what we've used this toy for the most is its music! It plays 26 different songs and my son loves to dance to all of them and urge his parents to sing the words to them. It additionally plays the alphabet song either with or without the singing, and he learned that song from this toy.
Not so much fun as a pull toy and it's not that cute, but we've gotten so much use from this toy, it's one of his mainstays that we always bring with us when traveling.
Durability is pretty good; the antennae don't light up anymore but the toy has taken much abuse and still works great.
Customer Review: Far too Loud for young ears! Summary: 1 Stars
Although my son absolutely loved the Alphabet pal, the volume switch is placed on the back of the toy and as you may know kids love buttons and switches. At its loud volume, and at a distance that is common for a child, this toy actually causes ear pain! The manufacturer says the volume is acceptable because it is "a pull toy" but because it has buttons for feet, it encourages kids to get within a few inches of the speaker. PLEASE carefully consider your child's hearing before buying this toy! If you still feel your child must have this toy, please head to a store and hear for yourself. Just remember to get close to the toy to hear the toy at a child's distance. Press several buttons to have it play all the sounds, but be careful, because some of the sounds it makes at the high volume will hurt. There is another feature, which is just annoying, before the toy shuts itself down, it runs a little ad for Leap Frog. As a side note: My son received several other Leap Frog toys for his birthday and many of them are loud, but the alphabet pal is the worst.

Customer Review: A Review of Leapfrog's Alphabet Pal Summary: 2 Stars
I guess it's true: All children are not alike. Certainly, neither one of my children (now 3 and 5) would play with this toy. At a younger age, they didn't find pushing the legs and making noise much fun.
At the toddling stage they just weren't the sort to 'pull' a toy after them, especially as the string was too short and kept slipping out of their little fingers (longer strings are considered 'safety hazards' btw).
And when they were older, past toddling, the alphabet and color aspects were just not interesting enough to sit down and play with.
Two Stars for us. Leapfrog makes some awesome edutainment products, but not every toy is universally fun for all kids.
The problem with this one, I think, is that the pull-toy aspect is mis-matched with the alphabet, preschooler, side of the toy. Certainly, my kids learned nothing from this toy, principally because when they were babies the alphabet meant nothing; and when they were older, they didn't want to sit and play with a caterpillar.
Customer Review: Alphabet Pal review Summary: 5 Stars
My son got this for his 1st birthday. He is now 18 months old. It hasn't kept his attention for long, but he plays with it for a little while almost every day. He likes to change the settings from saying the letters, to the letter sounds, to the colors, to music. The music setting keeps his attention the longest.
This toy has definitely gotten mixed reviews and I can see why. The voice is annoying (yet it doesn't bother me) and the string is too short for a walking toddler to pull. My son likes to pull the string just to hear the alphabet song.
I am happy he received this toy. He has had fun figuring out what all the different button do and shaking it by the string.
My husband and I have had fun trying to trick it into saying bad words, but we haven't found too many that work. So it's fun for all ages! :)
I would recommend this toy to anyone who isn't bothered easily by toys that make noise.
p.s. I think Oedipus is the little bug on Alphabet Pal's back.
