Toys and Games Reviews of Fridge Words Magnetic Word Builder

Customer Review: Fun, durable and educational toy
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband sent me to the store to get magnetic letters for our 10 month old daughter, and I brought home this toy. And our daughter loves it! We can be cooking dinner and she'll stand in front of the fridge and pull out & put in the letters. She doesn't comprehend it yet, but she knows how to play the ABC song and she dances along with the music. My husband and I have sat in front of the fridge with her for over 30 minutes spelling different words and doing the sounds with her. And it's durable too - she has pulled and thrown the letters off of the fridge and there has never been a problem with them. The jet sticks pretty well to the fridge - she has been able to push it to the bottom of the fridge, but can't pull it off the fridge. And I love the 2 volume settings - we have it on the lowest setting and can still hear her in the kitchen if we are in the family room. This is a great toy!!!

Customer Review: Fun play with letters and words
Summary: 5 Stars

Our 3-year-old daughter is having a great time with this toy. She loves the auditory feedback she gets when she places the letters in the slots and creates a word that the program recognizes. It has 3 different levels of difficulty, going from learning the sounds that each letter makes, to spelling 3-letter words, to doing a word hunt by spelling a 3-letter word that the program gives you. For the hunt, the program will say the letter it wants you to look for, and a red light blinks above the corresponding slot. It uses lower cased letters, and the vowels are red. There is a setting that allows for 2 different degrees of volume, and you can power it off. We weren't diligent with turning it off, and we went through the batteries within 2 months.

It has definitely been a worthwhile purchase. I'm glad we got the one with 3 letters and not the one with only one letter.

Customer Review: LEARNING IS FUN!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just recently purchased this toy at a local store. This is a wonderful toy and well worth the money. I have a 2 and 4 yr old that play with it everyday. My son was in prek this year and his teacher said he is behind on his letters. I baught and tried everything to help him learn...(Flashcards,v-smile,puzzles,etc.) Nothing worked. The first day my daughter and son started playing, the words and letters were memorized. They enjoyed dancing to the music after answering questions correctly. When it asks them to spell a word, it gave helpful hints on what letter to use and what color the pieces were. The magnets are covered with thin coating of rubber for those of us who are worried it would scratch the stainless. This toy is fun for the whole family,I strongly recommend this item to all parents striving for their childs positive academic success. Thanks leap pad it worked...

Customer Review: Scared my child
Summary: 1 Stars

We gave our 3 year old daughter the Fridge Words(tm): Magnetic Word Builder for her birthday 2 weeks ago. We have numerous Leapster products and I had full confidence in purchasing this item. As an elementary school teacher for 11 years, I know the importance in toys like this one. Much to my shock, my daughter is terrified of this toy. Why? Because for whatever reason for the letter A the sound and announcement is "aaaah....monster!" Who ever thought this was appropriate for young children need to actually spend time with a toddler. We spend many times a day pretending monsters are fun and NOTHING to be scared of. Now I have a toy, that I was so happy for her to play with, reinforcing the idea that a monster is scary. At this point I will never again purchase Leap Frog products or recommend them to friends or students of mine. What a disappointment created in this toy.

Customer Review: Great Learning Toy - Magnets need to be stronger
Summary: 4 Stars

My 3 1/2 year old loves this toy. After mastering all of his letters with the LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Letter Playset, we decided to get him this for Christmas. He really likes playing the Word Hunt and having them tell him how to spell words.

My only real disappointment with this toy is that the magnets on the back are not really strong enough and it's always sliding down my fridge, often sending the letters below crashing to the kitchen floor. The Letter Playset has a REALLY strong magnet, and I was expecting the same from this LeapFrog product. That's why I only gave it 4 stars.

I was surprised at the words this machine knows and doesn't know. It has asked my son to spell the word "WAR" twice already, but when I was first testing out the Whammer it didn't know the words "SOW" or "SOD" but it will try to sound them out.
